Winston, what functions does Blur perform besides the cosmetic?

Also, the statement that it is a whole other OS is misleading. If it were a completely seperate OS then Android would not be able to even see Firefox, let alone kill it:

"...For a period of time, however, the Firefox browser remains running, to allow any auto-save functionality to trigger for web sites such as GMail or Microsoft Office Live. After this period of time, Firefox is suspended and its priority is lowered, allowing it to be killed if Android deems it necessary."
Thats Firefox...WebTop remains running in the background

When the device is undocked, all webtop application activity is suspended and the webtop application itself moves to the background.

Android is still going to be fighting for resources no matter which way you look at it.

So, here is some new news from Phil at Android Central.

    Hi! How's everybody doing.

So new stuff: Demo unit models are on order. That means the hardware's done. Set. Ready to go. Looking toward a July launch.

    TTFN

If this is legit, that is very exciting and much better than a mid August launch. Can anyone confirm this? I am not familiar with Phil, but as he is an admin over there, I have to assume he knows his stuff.

Winston, and others hinted at a summer launch, and q3 if things really fall behind. This isn't all that surprising. Demo units just mean that the hardware is being tested by a larger group. Think field testing.

A lot of those guys at AC seem clueless. They are praising someone for gathering speculated information. Not sure if many of them follow many release threads, but, more often than not, the speculated specs are correct. Also, bloggers are usually why a phone has so many "release dates" because we love reading about rumors. Wnrussell confirmed most of said info for us, but of course keeps things fun by letting us guess. The release date could be it, but who knows?

Fair enough. July is smack dab in the middle of summer so hopefully the testing goes well and we do get it in July. That would be great, since we have been waiting for this since it previewed at CES.

With all due respect, had wnrussell posted that same info yesterday, you would take it as gospel and thank him. Oxn had been saying something juicy was coming yesterday, and he delivered with the concrete specs. Wnrussell then chimed in and confirmed their accuracy. Had those now-concrete specs been mentioned as possibilities prior to that? Yes, but he gave us confirmation. Now it's no longer speculation. I don't understand bashing him at all.

Phil certainly means well, but he does seem to jump the gun with release dates and other info quite a bit...

I'm not saying Oxn is or isn't a reliable source of info, and if he comes through with some good pictures, I will certainly give him credit. We know wnrussell, however, so it's kind of unfair to compare the two. Let me be skeptical. I have no reason not to be yet. :P

I have zero issue issue with this. People get way to up in arms over these skins and features when most of them can just not be used or turned off.

I actually kind of like this specific issue if it comes to fruition. Almost all my apps are from the market but I have a feeling a couple are causing performance issues but I can't quite pinpoint them. It just isn't as easy as within Windows or something. This could be handy.

With the gingerbread update, I really don't mind blur. Stock android is overrated to be honest, and some of these skins somewhat improve on stock android. If anything, blur is shaping up to be like HTC sense.

Of course, July is better than August. If it is July, shouldn't more leaks be coming out about now?
