I sent my Nokia N-86 in for repair becasue it wasnt powering on. I have been waiting for it to return when today i recieved the following email
Ref: Serial Number: #######

Upon inspection by the Nokia Authorized Service Center, your Nokia N86-3 device, serial number ########, was determined to be out of warranty. Please contact the Nokia Authorized Service Center below to receive an out of warranty repair quote or to have your unrepaired device returned to you.
A few years ago i spent weeks fighting with them over a defective camera on an N-95 and i really do not feel like pulling teeth again to get my phone repaired. Does anyone know the most efficiant method to find out why the phone was considered "out of warranty" and to appeal this. When i sent the phone in i have been having issues with charging. The charging light would stay on even when unplugged and then the phone stopped booting up. There was no physical damage to the phone nor was there liquid damage. When the warranty claim was submitted it was a few days shy of the 1 year mark, however when submitted it was within the 1 year (it is past 1 year now).
Any advice would be appreaciated. It took me weeks last time to get the issue resolved with palco and i was hoping that when i sent it in this time things would go smoother, but i guess that was wishful thinking.
A quick followup (and i cant believe how bad the nokia support is) post
The issue was that the phone went out of warranty between the time it was shipped and the time it was recieved, I was able to recitfy this by faxing a copy of my invoice, fairly painless i thought and have been awaiting my repaired phone.
Well yesterday i decided to call customer service to see where my phone was, and i was informed it was shipped, lucky me. Well i request the tracking number and track the phone to find that Palco when forwarding the phone for repair to the other repair depo in texas had included the wrong customer info with the phone and the phone was shipped to someone other than me. Now i am stuck trying to deal with customer care trying to intercept a phone that is out for delivery, have it shipped back to the repair depot in texas then shipped back to me. Even with all these issues and assuming that they are able to intercept the package they are unwilling to upgrade the return shipping.
Yet another update. I got the replacement phone... and its defective.
The phone turns on and everything appears to be functioning however it will not detect cell towers. I tried a manual search and it says "No Access"
I tried to call nokia last night and was told since it was out of waranty now that i would have to pay for the repair. Obviously this is not correct, but i didnt have time to argue with them at that time so i need to call them back today to get this resolved, but yet again here i am going on over a month without a phone due to their inability to run a compitent repair department.
