Are Verizon LTE SIM cards movable?
I'm hoping someone who has a LTE modem and picked up a TB could answer this question. If you take the SIM card from the modem and place it in the TB does the data portion work on the phone? Does it work the other way too, if you take a voice/data plan SIM and place it in the modem does the modem work as a data card? Thanks in advance.
The SIM card profile IMSI provisioning should be different on VZW's IMS server. Well you can try it but if it works I except VZW to fix the loophole very fast.
But would one be able to move a VZW 4G SIM Card to another VZW 4G phone and have it work? Similar to SIM swapping with GSM phones....
I asked a Verizon rep this question and was told "no" but I don't totally believe it.
We'll have to see if someone on this board who upgraded has a friend who also did the same... If they could do a quick SIM-swap test, that would answer the question.
As far as I know, they should work just like GSM sim cards in that matter.
That would be great... The only thing we need now is a cheap VZW phone that takes SIM cards. I'd love to put my SIM into a cheap phone before hitting the beach or Six Flags. If something happens to the phone, I'd rather replace a no-featured phone than the Thunderbolt...
Yes; the Verizon Wireless 4G SIM card contains all of your subscriber information, so the SIM card is portable and can be used in any Verizon Wireless-certified 4G device. All usage will be billed to the account associated with the 4G SIM card.
You can also use your 4G SIM card like AT&T/T-Mobile in ANY future device that supports LTE and is VZW certified.
9. Is my 4G SIM card compatible with any other provider’s device?
Possibly. Many providers are GSM-based (meaning their service also uses a SIM card), however, Verizon Wireless can only support Verizon Wireless-Certified 4G devices. See a list of Verizon Wireless certified devices.
The only thing that DOESN'T work is the old 3G roaming SIM cards which really aren't VZW SIM cards at all, they are Verizon-Vodafone SIM cards for international roaming. I expect those to go away in the next few months/years as VZW moves to native direct SIM roaming with their own 4g SIM cards instead of the Vodafone-VZW ones.
Nice. Thanks for posting the FAQ. There aren't many things that I miss about my non-VZW days... but the ability to switch to another phone within seconds using a SIM card is definitely one of them. I'm glad to see that VZW is headed in that direction.
Yes, you may move your LTE SIM card. Verizon isn't allowed by FCC rules to discriminate against any devices on there 700mhz 4G LTE network. You may use any 4G LTE device on their network, any 4 of the devices currently available .
Open access to Verizon's 700mhz network (4G LTE in this case) is assured by FCC rules. This is similar to the 1980's court rulings against land line incumbent--Ma Bell; the old AT&T--exclusive rights to devices and phones on the old POTS telephone network.
Open access is one of the restrictions announced before Verizon was allowed to bid for the 700mhz spectrum in 2007.
I can verify that moving the sim card from Thunderbolt to Pantech UML290 works. My Thunderbolt's hotspot is worthless. Constant disconnects so I moved the sim to UML290 and voila it works without any problems. Let's see how long this lasts.
Will be interesting to see how your bill turns out.

careful! on the evdo aircard plans at least, the fine print says voice is like 69 cents a minute or so (since there's no speaker or mic, or normal way to call anyone, the plan includes 0 minutes). And indeed, I used my aircard once or twice "ATDT (my phone number)" to ring my phone so I could find it, and it did charge for a 1 minute call. So if the aircard SIM *does* work in the phone don't talk much 8-)
yes indeed, the site will make it quite clear what plan you are on, and my recollection is along with the "xxxMB out of unlimited" (I was on a grandfathered plan) it did explicitly say "0 out of 0 minutes" (or if I'd lost my phone that month, "1 out of 0 minutes", and all these exclamation marks and warnings that I'd gone over my allowance) and "0 out of 0 texts" in the same way it lists data, text, and voice allowances for any other phone plan.
