I just migrated over from ATT to T-Mobile contract free on their month to month plan to pay less. Hmmm maybe just maybe we'll change to a contract service with T-Mobile before the actual merger happens to get a low rate. Sad day to see this happen, I guess congress just wants monopolies all over the place. I doubt the FCC will do anything about the merger, just slap them on their wrists letting them know to play nice with consumers.

If your eligible for a handset upgrade it does not seem as though you would be forced to a different plan.
I'm about 3 years eligible but I thought that I couldn't since the plans aren't available currently? If I definitely can I'll do it the day before the acquisition.

I'm no T-Mobile insider but I didn't think they would force you to change plans so long as you kept the device type the same. If I'm correct you could almost get 3 years out of what you have now by waiting till the last minute.
Didn't DT's CEO rule out a sell out less than a month ago?
On February 25th, the Wall Street Journal printed up a quick statement from Deutsche Telekom CFO Timotheus Hoettges who ruled out an “outright” sale of the US branch of DT,
Maybe you should look up the definition of an outright sale. In an outright sale you don't end up with an 8% equity in the new company as DT will have in this case.
DT didn't do anything contrary to the CEO's statement.
We probably go to Sprint or prepaid if the buy-out goes through. I probably upgrade our lines before the buy-out goes through and hang on the "good" plan for 2 more years.

This will be difficult for me as I have family plan, but I just derive my number and move to VZW + Clearwire and my buddy number to Sprint + Clearwire (his ISP) and leave the rest of three intact, and move to Sprint or VZW when the time is right.
As a public service, I'll translate the press release:
T-Mobile users = WOW are you going to get SCREWED!
AT&T users = We're already screwing you but we'll increase the amount
of screwing you're getting.
T-Mobile Customer Service People, you'll either be terminated or re-
trained to answer, "Tell somone who gives a rat's rear end!" to any
question. AT&T Customer Service People already know how to do this.
I'd be interested in what will happen to the postpaid EM+ plans. I like the bring your own phone! Since you can bring or buy your own phone outright, you aren't tied to any financing, and no dictating what's on the phone! Since I'm not a heavy data user, I don't give a damn whether it's Edge or 4G. My wifi at home works.

Yeah, this does really suck for Tmo users. AT&T will get the bandwidth they need but what will we get out of it? Or is that it, everyone will get out? I want to keep my $5.99 unlimited data more than anything but I also need a faster phone for it. I guess I have a year to figure that out.
