I wonder how the Obama Congress will deal with this, since Cingular/AT&T wireless, Sprint and Nextel, were all allowed to merge under the Bush administration.

I hope the democratic govt will block this.

The Obama Congress that you speak of has the Republicans controlling the House by a wide margin, and the Democrats controlling the Senate, by a very slim margin.

Though in reality I doubt very much it would matter which party was truly in control, since both sides would allow this deal to go through.

Obama is crippled by "red" houses.

Congress is now split between the two parties. I think you can expect a stalemate on any Congressional action. The Obama Administration, namely the FCC and FTC and Justice Department, may have something to say about this, but I wouldn't count on it. The deal will go through. AT&T will have to make some promises and get rid of some bandwidth that it really doesn't need. That's about it. As I said in another thread, the issue now - to me, at least - is who is going to get the bandwidth that AT&T-Mobile sheds? Will they be a real competitor?

This isn't the end of the world here. I had AT&T before the Cingular buyout then the merger back to AT&T I loved the network but it just didn't work in my house. T-Mobile gives me 5 bars in my basement so it just made sense to switch.
T-Mobile's pricing is good for the grandfathered plans and customer service is great.

Short term I doubt anything's going to change much. I think when contracts are up and you renew we'll lose some of the great plans we have so pay full price or get a new plan it usually comes out the same either way.

I'm excited that coverage should be better and I would pay a little more (not a lot) for that.

There goes competition, my rates, my unlimited data, unlimited international calling, text all for $90.00 a month including taxes etc. Now I will have to live with 900 min, 2G of data, $20.00 unlimited text, who knows how much for international calling.
Maybe that's why for the aquisition. Tmobile isn't able to make money with those rates?

This merger should be allowed to happen, it is not a monopoly... but... it sucks.

And you guys shouldn't expect political parties to block companies from operating on the free market..

DT didn't do anything contrary to the CEO's statement.
Oh please a 40 or 49% equity stake maybe.
No your right by strict definition , they get an entire 8% stake in the new company. Sure does seem like T-Mobile customers got sold out.
