    Smile Mobilicity Site Location Map

I realize that I've been rather behind on this, and there are other maps out there (for instance http://loxcel.com/celltower), but I've now added a Google-based map of the Mobilicity cell site locations in Southern Ontario (based on data from the Industry Canada database). You can see the map at:

    Thanks for that Steve...very helpful!

I can see why they refer to my area at Yonge/407 as a low signal zone..yet I do have one tower near around Bayview. Not many further North however.Still the service is pretty good except in some buildings/elevators and tethering with Barnacle is a decent 3 usually or with Easy Tether.Hopefully it gets better.

But Mississauga needs some towers as i live west of the most WEST tower

If they are as lax as Bell Mobility then don't expect those Oakville sites to appear on the Industry Canada database for months.

I live on 9th line and I don't get reception in my neighborhood, for some reason though, you get Mobilicity reception close to the Burlington border on the highway.
"well what's the point of knowing all this stuff about phones if you can't use it to impress girls at parties???"

When you are close to the lake or on a high patch of ground it is possible to pick up a site from much further away than normal. This might be why you can get a lock on the network in Oakville or Burlington.

Thanks Steve. I feel nostalgia seeing WIND and Mobilicity cell sites in hexagons. It brings me back to those Clearnet and Fido maps.

I find that if you zoom to 10km scale, you get a good sense of the reach of the sites covered by the hexagons.

I find that the hexagons just seem to denote a site better than a small dot. As you noted, when viewed a particular zoom the hexagons give a greater sense of the coverage, or more specifically the HOLES in the coverage. They also give you an immediate feel for the density of the sites in a given area vs another.

the ottawa map is definitely missing a lot of towers... i've found a lot myself and they aren't on that map!
Managed to get Mobilicity to act and improve on 4 items.

I don't know how conscientious Mobilicity is at reporting sites to the database, but if they're anything like Bell Mobility you can expect longer delays to be the case more often than not. Bell for example took well over a year to finally get ANY of its HSPA sites in the database, and even today there are Bell/Telus HSPA sites that I watched them build and activate last summer that are still not listed.

I'll check to make sure I haven't missed any sites for some reason, but chances are it's just a matter of time.

The Loxcel tower map has been updated with Mobilicity data from 16-Mar-2012.

    A few other improvements:

    1. Works better on IE8

    2. Small visual improvements for smartphones

    3. Antenna counts reduced to reflect # physical antennas per tower. Before it counted once for a transmitter and again for a receiver, even if both were handled by the same physical antenna.

    Thanks

Forgot to mention one other addition to the Loxcel cell tower map:

    * 5MHz and 10MHz filters - let you search for higher-bandwidth sites, like 4G, LTE, etc.

(As of 1-Mar-2012, there are no antenna with 20MHz bandwidth in Canada.)

    Thanks

Should anyone fail to recognize that as a year old post, Mobilicity does meet its monthly obligation for periodic submission to Industry Canada.
In the AWS/cellular context, TAFL is Industry Canada's list of all base stations in operation, as submitted by the spectrum licensee the month prior.

The underlying database is Industry Canada's Assignment and Licensing System (ALS)
A subset of the ALS is published monthly as the Technical and Administrative Frequency Lists (TAFL)
Real-time access to the AWS/cellular data of ALS is provided by Spectrum Direct's (SD) Geographical Area Search
