    Flashing Thunderbolt

I know that data and mms etc probably won't work for now, but I heard that I can flash my TB to metro for text and talk in the same way as any other droid. I've searched around but couldn't really find anything better than this:

but it wasn't exactly helpful. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

Why would you follow a Droid tutorial for an HTC?

I was told that for just talk and text any tutorial will do (we're not talking mms data or any of that stuff, just talk and text)

Plus why would someone want to flash an LTE Android for just (2G) CDMA use on Metro?

Go get a less expensive CDMA-only Android!

If someone actually bought the Thunderbolt off contract (full price) at Verizon, that's $700 for a talk and text CDMA Android on Metro. Even if they get everything 2G CDMA working, it will still never have LTE access on Metro. It will always be a slow CDMA Android on Metro.

If they bought it with contract at Verizon (subsidized price), there's still 2 years left on the contract as the Thunderbolt just came out this month. So, they will either be paying huge termination fee or dodging the debt collectors.

Just doesn't seem to be worth it any way you look at it...
Your creed may be interesting, but your deeds are much more convincing.

couldn't you use a ICCID card out of one of metro's 4G LTE devices and place it in the TB... then somehow provision the device to metropcs and figure out how to make it stick, maybe a root and rom is neccessary... anyone have any of this for this phone?

While it's possible to flash the CDMA part of the Thunderbolt to Metro's 2G CDMA network, it's IMPOSSIBLE to flash the LTE part. That post explains why.

ok here is my question, Is anyone out there really working on this??? At this very moment someone may be really trying to figure it out. Once that person or persons figure it out. They will still not release the solution. A solution like this one could be worth hundreds of dollars. I have many ideas and possibilities, but it's not in my knowledge. If I knew how to do advanced modding. I would definitely jump on it and figure this out. There are yet many ways to try and get the 4G to work on the verizon phone. One big idea that came to my mind just recently. Everyone is just looking to put a metropcs 4G LTE ucci Sim card on a Thunder-B , but instead why not try and figure out a way to use the 4G from verizon sim card. Like I said I am not that advanced, but if I knew how to some crazy mods I would have been working on this, because it's worth it the work and the hassle. You may say it's impossible to use the verizon sim card as LTE connection, but trust me. Nothing is impossible in this world. I know there is someone out there working on this right now. OHHHHH people and yes, you can flash this phone to work with WEB and MMS on another carrier. I seen posts on craigslist. I been working on this as well because it's useful to know how to flash a phone. The settings won't stick to the htc (using QPST latest version ). If someone in here know how to make these settings stick then would be cool to post up for us. I am thinking maybe n.v. file will need to be flashing in order to able to make settings stick. CDMA workshop will write partial settings, but not all. QPST is not working with the thunderbolt at all. You can read the settings, but you can't write. I am getting an error.

Why can't I get color TV on my b&w TV? Is anyone working on this? Uh, b&w TVs can't get color because they don't have the necessary internal components to receive and see color.

I can tell you did not read the post above yours.

Yes, you can probably get web and mms because you are changing the CDMA stuff to Metro's. Metro and Verizon have shared CDMA frequencies in most -- but not all -- markets. That is why you can "flash" CDMA phones. Anyone getting web and mms via another carrier on the Thunderbolt are using the CDMA radio. That post above yours explains it all. (same way Metro "roams" on Verizon and Sprint's CDMA networks.)

But Verizon and Metro do not share LTE frequencies at all and their current LTE chipsets are totally different. (explained in the post above yours) You would have to go into the phone, open it up, and rip out the Verizon LTE chips and solder MetroPCS LTE chips instead.

It's not just the sim cards. Verizon LTE phones lack the necessary internal components to operate on MetroPCS LTE network.

In the future that may change -- perhaps LTE chipsets will be made which can handle all the major LTE networks and the carrier activates what they want, which means flashers can activate what THEY want. But right now in the early days of LTE, that is not how it works.

Yeah, true.... Yeah I did understand the posts..... Well your all right about that. 4G LTE is something new. Sooner or later hopefully they release a 4G LTE device compatible with metropcs 4G frequency. It's still going to be real hard to get it to work on metro, because they don't sell their sim cards like verizon does.

Anyone know how to change the m.i.p. Ppconfig settings on the thunderbolt??? It gives me an error when i try to change them. Also with cdma workshop it don't let me change to metropcs. Anyone know why?? My phone does get detected, i can read settings with qpst, but can't write. I do have custom rom installed already.

If BeanP is using the most recent version of CDMA Workshop it's tied to his specific computer and would be unusable on yours, jd.

BeanP, will you shine some more light on flashing the TB to another carrier? Is it possible to flash it to work on Sprint?

to make the prl stick to the thunderbolt you don't need cdma workshop or any program, all you have to do is put the IMEI into metropcs inventory system and dial *22804 and update the prl from there and that's it.
