and the sycn icon is permanently in my notification bar. Force stopping the "contactsync" app/process is a very temporary fix, but it comes right back. Weird.
You need to do a data clear via the restore menu. That will get rid of the sync icon.

But wont you have to reinstall all your apps doing a reset? I had to do that factory reset last year on the Droid X and then all my apps had to be downloaded again.

I had the sync icon bug when the first gingerbread leak came out and the only thing that fixed it was wiping user data/cache. I am pretty sure my apps downloaded again from the market when I set up my phone with my google account.

I did the Clear Cache from the boot menu, but still have the sync icon in the notification bar. I did see the Factory Reset listed, but I'm not going to do that and have to speed the time reinstalling all these apps, just so that little icon is none. Having it on the notification bar really isn't that big of a deal.

I also had Z4 Root installed and with the phone over clocked to 1.2GHz. I didn't remove the overclock and unroot first before installing the Gingerbread update. But after I couldn't get the phone to fully boot. So I also had to use the 2.3.340 SBF file to get the phone back to normal, but all my apps were still in place. After that I was able to install the Gingerbread 4.5.588 update.zip and the phone rebooted just fine.

Yeah, it's more of a minor annoyance to me than anything else. I'm betting it will get fixed in a future release at some point anyway.

My phone works well (sorta), i just been finding little bugs here and there, when using the music player it shows a track that is playing but is another one,it changes my ringtones every once in a while, some how i can't download clapp from the market, all of my other apps are there except that one, i noticed that it drained my battery quicker than before even though i have the extended battery.

That sync icon will draw down you battery quicker, it's trying to sync data all the time.

wq43ui - did all your free apps come back automatically? I've heard all the paid apps will come back, but all the free ones are gone. All your settings, passwords, bookmarks, everything will be gone.

I haven't done the full reset yet, I've must left the icon there and keep an eye on the battery level.

Yes they did all of them except for CLAPP (craigslist app). but just make sure that you have all your apps already and running gingerbread on it, because if it hasn't sync yet( just incase if you have the sync symbol on your task bar) you will probably have to re download all the free apps.
forgot to add that all your setting will come back, even the wallpaper that you were using, except for assigned tones and i think passwords but not to sure on that.

That's good to know. All my apps I have are freebys, so if they all come back that would be awesome.

I've been running GB since Thursday with no issues at all except for the sync icon stuck on. I'm planning on doing the full restore today, so I'm hoping all the apps are restored and maybe just have to put my passwords and settings back in for email.
