I went with the Samsung (for now) due to it's lighter weight and smaller footprint compared to the Novatel - oh, and it was available today.

I'm not sure what you mean by "range."

Here are some more results from inside my house in Annandale, Va, with 3 bars of LTE indicated. This time I tested each device independently as opposed to the simultaneous test I did earlier in this thread.

    MacBook:

    iPad:

    iPhone:

    Galaxy Tab:

Overall very satisfactory. Maybe this weekend I can find a site that's more in the sweet-spot of an LTE tower.
    iPhone

    iPad 4G

    It just keeps getting better...

I'm contemplating getting the Samsung on contract on and then getting the Novatel at full retail when available. I can always return the Samsung if within 14 days or sell it if outside.

Or keep both. The speeds look pretty sweet. How's the build quality Kupe?

Solid. It's definitely more sturdy than the Mifi 2200, but it's 100% plastic on the outside vs the Mifi's metal body. It's slightly thicker and heavier too. The charging port (micro-USB) has a clever sliding door to cover it when not in use which recesses into the body of the device while charging.

    Kupe,

I was wondering, say for instance, how far away from the hotspot can your macbook receive a signal?

Personally I like the Novatel brand better because it's more likely hackable and more user reconfigurability. And for other things I have no personal preference.

Ah - understand. I'll check that out this weekend too. I can see how that might be an important characteristic.

So...is this crazy, but can I buy this and just carry it around with me all day? And just leave my Verizon iPhone on WiFi the whole time so I can get 4G speeds?

How large/heavy is this thing and what's the battery life like?

It's very light, doesn't feel like your carrying anything @ all. And yes you can do that with your iPhone.

It says 3.5 hours battery life. Get ready for lots of headaches with connection issues if you decide to go that route.

I wonder how much better is the battery life with the extended battery? I was contemplating this combo but haven't seen too many reviews on this Samsung unit. Maybe for $50 on a 2-year contract I may just take the plunge. I can always buy the Novatel at full retail when that gets released if ever.

Are the connection issues 4g related? Because I have never had any connection issues with my 3g MIFI.

Oh wow 3.5 hours sounds pretty bad. I was hoping it would be at least 7-8 hours.

I'm on the fence for this device. I'm afraid of how fast 5GB or 10GB will get chewed up due to its' lightning fast speeds. All these carriers are dropping unlimited data plans.

When it goes from 4G to 3G, you pretty much get booted offline. 3G mode does not work very well or at all is what I'm seeing/reading.

Thats with my 4G USB card though. Also, my card does not work too well inside of office buildings. I've never had such problems with 3G devices.
