    Tough Call.

1st thing i would do is a factory reset to safe, but that is just me.
Did you s-unlock or use an unlock code from the internet?
I assume its a stock rom? does the APN save after you select the save option? if not, try inputting it and hitting the back button.

Also, once you input the APN and it saves, and you see it in the list, don't forget to "check it on" with the little green dot indicating it is selected. By default, just saving it won't enable it.

I have already tried the factory reset. The unlock is from mobileincanada.

Stock ROM. And yes it does save. I have it selected and everything. It is checked and everything.

I'm beginning to think that data might be blocked on my account accidentally.

Is there such a thing as blocking data access on certain SIM cards?

Because phoning and texting work perfectly, and I'm 100% sure that the APN settings I put in were correct.

    Thanks!
Your sim card didn't happen to come from a blackberry? Did it?

No. But it did come from a flip phone. I called my account rep and told him to add data. I'm thinking he might have messed up or completely forgot about it.

Yeah. Everything works perfectly. Except the data won't come on. I'll try to test it tomorrow on a different unlocked phone.

Have you made sure that the proper mode has been enabled?

So I got the HTC Sensation to work on the network and so far it is pretty smooth. I got it activated at Portage Place. They wanted to charge me $25 for activating it but I brought the settings that are posted on the forum and did it myself. They were kind of surprised I got it to work without their help and that it took less than 10 mins.

$25 for an activation is insane. Is that why MTS CEO Pierre Duhaime salary is $800,000.00 a year?

Only reason I am still with MTS is because Shaw, Rogers, Telus even have higher paid CEO's, and of course MTS still has the unlimited network unlike the other douce-bags.

    Question Samsung Captivate

This is going to be a long one...

I'll start by saying that I too can be added to the list of happy Samsung Captivate users on the MTS "4G" network. I am really happy with Android but I am always looking for custom roms to use versus stock because stock is just so not original :P

I started with stock Rogers 2.2 FroYo on my Capi, rooted and sim unlocked with the Galaxy S Unlock app from the market. The phone works great and no problems. When I had went to the MTS Connect store to have my phone switched over from my old BB 8530 to my Capi all the guy did was gave me a sim card, activated it disactivated my BB and popped in the sim, he manually entered the APN settings and it was great from there on.

Me being the nerd I am, I couldn't settle for stock FroYo so I went looking for other roms. I settled on Serendipity 6.4 which is based on 2.2.1 and it runs flawlessly, amazing performance and it's all themed like Gingerbread. Now I have tried multiple times on different occasions to flash to at least 2.3 on my Capi. Every time I run Gingerbread, whether it be stock, CyanogenMod 7 or Serendipity 7 I can never get my sim to register on MTS' network and 3g/HSPA will not work no matter what. If it connects to a network with my sim inserted it will connect to the "CAN Rogers Wireless Network" and show roaming in the signal bars. On a few occasions I had it connect to the "CAN Rogers Wireless Network | MTS" network but even then no chance for data. Calling and sms work fine but no data. I am really surprised as to why my phone works perfectly fine running any version of 2.2 but when I try 2.3 it just won't work.

I am really curious to know if anybody has any ideas as to what could be wrong. I feel like I have tried everything and thought that maybe in some weird way MTS doesn't support 2.3 but that wouldn't make sense and my a co-worker of mine had recently upgraded his Android phone to CyanogenMod 7 and it works perfectly fine. I am open to any suggestions and am willing to try anything out.

    It isn't about MTS.
    2.2 or 2.3, it doesn't matter.
I have used 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, all without issue on MTS.
It sounds like a radio issue or possible kernel issue.
When you flashed 2.3, did you verify that the radio was compatible ? Or try another radio?

    Running 2.3.4 atm.

Hmm. You said the phone was rogers?
There is a 2.3.3 stock OTA update for rogers phones. Might try that.

Somebody has to ask the obvious question:

You did re-enter the APN settings after you flashed the phone right?

    * I can ask this since I scared myself with the same problem only to remember that I had forgotten to re-enter the settings.

I just put a Rogers Captivate on my MTS plan a few weeks ago. I've flashed a few different roms and have been using CyanogenMod 7 the most. I find it has worked best for me. To get data working I entered the APN settings and had to enable national data roaming. Mine also connects to the CAN Rogers Wireless Inc. | MTS network. Not really sure if there's anything more you can do, might show up like that just b/c they share towers?
As for HSPA, it seems to be working for me after doing what I mentioned above.

I think I've done my homework on this one but I just need reassurance. The HTC amaze is now offered exclusively through Telus and T-Mobile. Could I buy the T-Mobile version (unlocked obviously and cheaper then Telus) and use it on MTS. The HTC site says the phone will support 850/1900 on both the Telus phone and T-Mobile phone. So what do you guys think?

Under HSPA Telus and MTS have the same bands. I have had a Telus Desire HD used both on Rogers and the MTS. Once unlocked it will work on any Canadian HSPA major provider, Rogers/Telus/Bell/SaskTel and yes MTS. It will work.

T-mobile does not use the same frequency set that MTS and Telus use. Be careful .
