Unlocked phones on MTS HSPA+: Success, Failures and Q&A

Just an update - the Galaxy S2 (Skyrocket) LTE works very well on MTS. I haven't switched over to LTE quite yet, but planning on it. Just need to figure out how to squeeze a full day's worth of battery life out of this phone before I take the leap. As it stands, I go from 100% to 10% in 8 hours...!

Wow that is fast (been very happy with the ION bat life is such that usually after 16 hours I still have a 50% charge). One thought though, are you running JellyBean on it? A co-worker has an S3 and put a custom jelly bean rom on his. He then tried an application that I use for mail (enhanced email (to get around the lock pin requirement on our exchange server)). When he installed that app he found his battery life tanked yet I have no issue with enhanced e-mail on ICS.

Perhaps your issue may be something similar, some app that for some reason has battery issues with your particular version of OS (sorry if this is too obvious).

I picked up a Galaxy Ace 2X from bell for $249 for my wife. Once I unlocked it and entered the APN settings, it worked right away. Not a bad little phone for $250.

The phone is slightly cheaper outright at Virgin for $199. But for that price, it really is a good little phone

Man, I knew I had seen it cheaper somewhere. At least Bell didn't try to charge me for one month on top of the cost of the phone.

I 've got HTC Hero (Telus) working on Rogers as payAsyoGo phone for number of years.
The phone specs says UMTS/HSPA – 850/1900; Quadband GSM/EDGE – 850/900/1800/1900.
Will it work on MTS as voice phone (no data)?

Looks like I had no luck with MTS rep. He told me it must be fully unlocked. I do not know what that means, so will try another MTS store.

If you got the phone from Telus, it will probably be locked to their network. You need to get the unlock code and the instructions on how to unlock your phone. You can get it from Telus, or you can get them online too. You won't be able to connect to the MTS network with a phone that is locked to a different carrier.

I got the lumia working alright , SMS, MMS and 3G. Cant get LTE to work though.
