The ct siting council website just posted these 2 permits on their March 16th 2012 update. This site does not include buildings or water towers unless their is a fixed tower installed on it. So I'm not sure when & or if the Torrington towers will have Verizon LTE panels installed. I walk by there every week. If i notice something I'll post it. There is also permits in Litchfield, Goshen, New Hartford, Harwinton & norfolk. Nothing in Winchester yet.
I have been in Torrington for the past few weeks, Sprint's network has turned to utter *****. The downtown and uptown towers are completely over saturated. Evdo speeds almost never break 100kbps down, pings can spike to over 1000ms, web browsing is impossible, sometimes the speedtest wont even run. Even worse I have more recently noticed that TEXTING FAILS on the downtown tower. Thank god there is a 4g protection site that overlays a good part of town, I can usually get 8mb down on 4g- although I just discovered this- I had been living with horrible 3g for the longest time because I didn't think there was any 4G and never turned it on.
Glad it wasn't just me then… Funny thing is each time I called Sprint technical support would investigate and tell me yes one of the 5 "main" towers is down again and the there are not working at 100% BUT are over capacity. And they have had upgrades in the area… BUT they can see where and why my data speeds were fine. After months of that they offered to send me to accounts services to close the account out - so I thought I'd get off the hook of no ETF :-) NOPE the Account folks said well per our 'map' my area is "best" coverage and should have great reception and data… After many many phone calls which pissed me off then made laugh towards the end LOL… I left and went back to AT&T which has the best priced plans and data speeds for my needs.
That all said I am not sure if you follow this person's blog BUt he seems to have some great Sprint info of late, this one got my interest spiked a bit :-)
Not sure how Torrington is part of Southern CT? but the info seems legit and since Ericsson isn't part of this update I do have faith in it happening (I think our area is Samsung?) unless Sprint runs out of cash first LOL… Also it seems we will get LTE with this upgrade as well…
If this pans out well I'd pay the ETF for AT&T and switch back in a heartbeat, as I really do like Sprint as a whole, but I need decent coverage and data bacjhuals to support an iPhone or decent Android phone!
Just saw a tower upgrade request to modify a site on top of the hill on east main street. That's almost 1100 feet elevation. Good place to start. Actually that's the first. I've seen for the whole state of Connecticut. Here's a couple screen shots of the ct siting council website.
That's awesome you should repost over at sprint 4g upgrade site... Do you think this is lte or just fixing the old network. I have to say most of the town is running between 250k to 1.4mbps down of late. Not bad at all - glad I switched back got to say. Sure parts of town and surrounding cities still suck. But...
Update - ahhh I couldn't zoom in before, I see it states lte. Nice. What's the typical work time a couple months?
Another sprint site going Lte. Thats more than any other city or town anywhere in ct. looks like Torrington is going to be Sprint's LTE testing city for the state of Connecticut. Also another verizon site going LTE.
That is pretty great. Do you know or think that these upgrades are shown as a request or are actually being worked on?
Odd thing is the two towers are spread far apart and I don't see how they could overlap. I hope they update the tower near the Big Y / Lowes area which is s dead zone.
Looks like sprint lte, verizon Lte & now At&t Lte are coming to Torrington in 2013. the whole city will be Lte. I'll be probally moving i believe towards my new job in Enfield anyways. Though it looks like anywhere i go in Connecticut between Torrington & Enfield Its gonna be hspa+
