I have an unlocked T-mobile webconnect stick--a.k.a. Huawei umg181--that I use in a remote server to send/receive text messages for automation and whatnot. (cheap prepaid plan, no data)

Anyway I want to be able to call it and get the caller id info. However, when I call it, it does not "RING" like a normal modem or show calling line identification. How can I enable that? Has anyone fiddled with this device? Is there another forum for gsm modem tinkerers like me?

I also posted on the Huawei.com device support forum but that seems to get very little traffic.

example i/o:

at+crc=1
OK
at+clip=1 (enable calling line identification)
OK
at+cpas
+cpas: 0
OK

(I call modem's number... nothing is displayed. let's check the status)

at+cpas
+cpas: 3 (it's ringing, but doesn't show RING)
OK

When it's ringing, I want the modem to say the with caller id, for example:
RING
+CLIP: "0123456789",123,1,......

Any help? Oh how I wish I had some sort of development manual from huawei
