    off brand tablets?

Just wondering if anyone here owns an "off brand" tablet, i'm wanting to put one in my truck, and I don't want to spend $300+ and have a monthly bill with it as well. But I don't want to buy an expensive paper weight either. Thanks in advance guys!

I have 2 "off brand" tablets, The Eken M001 (which is pure crap) and the Eken M002S which is a little better.

I have an Augen Gentouch 78. Bought at K-Mart for $150, and you get what you pay for. Did some mods that make it better than out of the box. It works really good as an ebook reader and web surfing but with resistive screen it doesn't respond well. Mother in law has a Huwai (sp) tablet that is much better, from Best Buy.

How much are you looking to spend? I've seen the viewsonic gtablet for 299 in Canada, might be cheaper in the U.S. but it might also be too large for the card, 10.1 inch

Not looking to spend much at all ($200 is probably my max), will be primarily used for gps and pandora music. Id like one that would let me play music via usb/rca output to my trucks dvd player.

What do you mean by resistive touch screen? What was wrong with the ekans? Id like it to have a decent touch screen as ill be driving most of the time using this. android 2.2 would be nice as well (can I install this on any tablet?)

I've looked at some of them, and they seem ok spec and feature wise, but the big problem they all have, is that they don't have access to the Market. If you can't download additional apps easily, it doesn't seem worth it.

I second checking out viewsonic, Also see Archos tablets, they are $300 and are much closer to real tablets than the toys you get for $150.

they have both 7" and 10" versions.

also, you can get a Galaxy tab no-contract for $350 now

a bit more than you want to spent, but the user experience is MUCH higher. If possible, see if you can try them out, you'll notice the difference immediately.

if i can download the apps/games onto my computer could I load them onto any tablet? As long as it's made for that particular version of android? Like if I bought a tablet that didn't have access to the android market, I could side load them from my computer?

It is possible, but finding them is difficult, and when you do find them, they're usually not up to date.

I don't think finding them will be a problem, i'm not going to use it heavily for every aspect of my day to day life, just streaming music, maybe browsing the web/facebook.

Ok sweet. So, ive been looking at some tablets online, id like:

wifi, accelorometer, a camera would be nice but not absolutely needed, how big of a difference is the receptive touch versus resistive?

Ressistive screens are like the ones on GPS units, you have to push to make it work. Capacitive are like iPod touches or any smartphone

if you are still in the market, the best option yet has just appeared:

    http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/22/a...pping-for-220/

7" capacitive, pretty fast processor $220.

    Done, awesome choice
