    Pre-release Samsung Galaxy Prevail discussion

Lol, what do you get when you take the Samsung Transform rip off the keyboard and replace the camera with a 2mp camera?

    The Galaxy Prevail.

    Lol

    Here is a question:
Will we have to pay $60 in order to use this phone?
If so, I'd stick with VM and OV because I seldom use talking, but mostly use it for internet radio.

Over in the boost section they have confirmed that it is the 800 mhz system from the Intercept/Moment/Transform. They also said it has only 128mb of memory for the user. The good news for boost fans is that supposedly it will be $50 a month and is eligible for the lower pricing after 6 months....

I notice this phone on AC as well. It looks nice, but it remnds me to much of the Optimus in a way. Just because its a mid range phone that's on the same level with the V and Intercept. Almost the same app memory, no flash and camera. The front facing camera is a nice though.

If you can use it on the paygo plan, I could see people leaving vm for it if they mostly want data and tethering. Unlimited data for $10 every 90 days.

I thought the unlimited Boost data for $10 was IDEN only or dumb phone CDMA. I have two Boost phones doing the $10 bit, one IDEN and one CDMA. I could tether the IDEN but the speed would be about 1990 quality, 28kb or so. I'm not aware of any Boost CDMA phones that you can tether. I agree that if you can use this Prevail on the PayGo plan that I would be all over it.

Boost has announced they're phasing out IDEN and it will be all gone by 2014. Bummer for those of us who love the cheap data.

In case anyone is curious, I use the Boost IDEN phone mostly for GPS tracking. $3.33 a month is cheaper than Sprint's Family Locator option, plus I get 100 minutes of voice. The software is free. www.instamapper.com It actually works better than Family Locator. There's also an Android app for it and it works well on the Optimus. http://www.appbrain.com/app/gps-trac...per.gpstracker

About the only thing that is the same as the Optimus is the screen size and the OS version. The processor is the same technology as the Moment/Intercept/Transform that was outdated back when the Moment was released. It only has 256 mb RAM for OS and 128 for the user, my Optimus has 300mb RAM free right now. The camera is 2mp whereas the Optimus, and even the Intercept, is 3.2mp. Since the insides are the same on the Prevail to those on the Intercept it will likely be rev.0. None if this whispers Optimus to me, but it screams Intercept minus the one feature people like about the Intercept, the keyboard.

The Prevail is a low end phone, only because you can't get lower than low end. The only reason for this phone is because the only other option on Boost for Android is the iden motorola i1, which is actually lower end than the prevail.

This phone is a prime example of what is wrong with companies like Samsung and Carriers. They know this phone will sell like hotcakes to boost customers that are not up on technology but want an Android on cdma instead of super slow iden. So they make this phone that is total crap and in a few months when sales slow down because folks hear how bad it is they will release something that today is mid range, like the Optimus, but by then will be low end. If Virgin, Cricket and Tmobile can sell the Optimus for $150 or less there is no excuse to release this Prevail for $180, or at all. This is pure corporate greed.

Edit: over in the boost section deathtrip said the prevail is only 1xrtt. So Samsung and Boost really want to screw customers.

Hm.. I seem to have confused this phone with the new Android VM Canda is getting. That's the one that has the front facing camera. Not sure if that one has flash either.

Agreed. I'm still thinking of possibly getting it, but the Optimus V still tops my list of potential purchases. I was really hoping that the processor would be much better because Samsung was cutting corners in terms of the camera and screen, but I was dead wrong. I'm going to wait for a few reviews before passing final judgement, but right now I'm not liking what I'm seeing.

I agree with starting a new thread, but in the spirit of being all technical about the rules and stuff, like many people here are, wasn't a new thread about this phone already opened and merged/locked? Why will this one stand?

Probably for the holiday season it will be on sale on either Boost Mobile's website or a retailer. I doubt it will be on sale anytime soon. i.e. For the next 3 months I think it will be locked in the ballpark figure of $179.99
