    E72 Firmware Available v54

Update for E72 available now, v54. I might fire up the device just to see what the update fixes, if anything. Anyone still using this thing?

I already went through the whole V3-to-V5-back to-V3 (another phone)

V3's battery life is much better than V5 IMO, so I'm gotta avoid taking the plunge even though I still enjoy using the phone...

My E72 is sitting around in factory, out-of-the-box condition with v52. Will update eventually just to see. *shrug*

    Just updated.

I haven't noticed any difference, really. It does seem zippier while navigating around the menus, but that could also just be a placebo effect, after I just finished the update.

How's the battery life? (guessing the same?)

For whatever reason I felt that V3 firmware was much better than V5 in terms of Battery...

    E72 Firmware

I updated last night (OTA) and had no problems with it. Haven't seen any functional difference in any program. The phone does seem to be more responsive and quicker. Still have the memory issue using the built in browser (running out of memory -I use Opera Mini 6 because it works so much better anyway). Haven't had enough time to determine if there are any changes in battery consumption.

Yeah, the only difference I've seen is menu navigation is a bit quicker. Other than that, no difference.

I don't think anybody's missing out by not updating, but if you do, I don't think it breaks functionality (so far).

I dug my E72 out and performed the update OTA. I don't have much of a comparison since it's been so long since I used this as my main device. I installed all software updates (except MS Communicator) and then realized that email 3.09 is broken in regards to Google Apps support and Mail for Exchange. A reset allowed me to get things working with syncing Google Apps and Mail for Exchange with the default Email v2.02, email is still not supported with Google. I played around with it a bit, installed a couple apps but put my SIM back in my XT701. I may put a little more effort into it to see if I can use it as my main, but without push email support for my corporate Google Apps account it's a frustrating experience.

    well, notsomuch...

Did the OTA update this weekend and tried using the phone. After about 3 hours this morning chasing my tail on missed calls (not showing up) and voicemail notifications showing as odd txt msgs, i gave up and switched back to my E71. I still have a new E72 in the box with the older V3 firmware, so I might get around to trying it someday. The E72 I have is a early production model, and I have sometimes wondered if that was the problem. For the moment back to the E71, I am traveling and don't have time to futz around with the 72.

The E72 is still the best battery charger i have found....

    Interesting

Well, I went back to the E72 and did a Hard Reset back to factory specs, and the durn thing started working ok. I have since installed Joiku Spot (the new version) and am looking at reinstalling handy blacklist. About the only other thing I had installed was calcium (the calculator). I am assuming that either something I had installed had wedged it, or there just was an issue with a previous update. In either event, I am going to be very cautious in installing applications.

Did the phone graduate from the desk drawer, or is it still not ready for prime time?...

I have been using it since my last post with pretty good results. This is the longest single run I have had on the E72 since buying it. It has 2 main advantages to the E71, the battery life and the flashlight. JoikuSpot still sucks power like a black hole, and I have not installed either blacklist or calcium for fear of screwing things up again. My calculator of choice these days is my HP-41 app for the iTouch anyway. I notice a bit of speed gain on large spreadsheets (pricelists that get searched for a keyword), but not enough to worry about. I still think the build quality on the E71 (and E61i for that matter) was better. A different company would have installed FP2 as an upgrade on the E71..

So this will probably do me until something else comes along, which from the looks of things will be a long long time from now. I have thought about experimenting with a Nexus, but I just don't have the time (and loose too much business) when the phone isn't working.

I notice the forum message velocity has dropped to nearly nothing since (and perhaps before) the MicroNokia announcement. My only wonder is just how bad this year is going to be for Nokia. However, I have my phone for now, and a second E72 in a box just in case.

lol I know sometimes it's hard to go back, but if the e72 wasn't my "GO TO PHONE" I would have sold it months ago.

I still can't believe that I'm entertaining the idea of getting the e6. This will probably be an "after launch on sale purchase". Black Friday maybe?...
