Unlocked Acer Liquid E, running ONLY EDGE (!) on T-Mobile USA
Question for all: I just purchased a new unlocked Acer Liquid E that's fully compatible with the T-Mobile USA network, but now T-Mobile tells me that as the phone wasn't supplied by them, it'll never be capable of accessing their 3G network. I've seen the complaints about this model's problems with 3G and WiFi (I've no problem with WiFi) after the OS was updated to 2.2 (this one came stock with 2.2), I've re-updated to the 2.2 version on Acer's US website...done the factory reset, etc., tried the alternative APN's, but, still stuck on EDGE.
1. Is it true there's no way I'll be able to access T-Mobile's 3G signal as I'm in possession of a, "renegade" handset?
2. If #1 is true, alternatives? WHO will let me access 3G? AT&T, prepaid provider? I'm on the, "Everything Plus" plan with T-Mobile, so don't have a contract to fulfill, but I've been with them now for six years ...
Any help would be appreciated!
BTW - yes, got a new SIM from T-Mobile yesterday after one of the five people I talked with told me my old one was, "2G only" (which doesn't explain why my former Nokia and Moto phones managed to consistently get strong 3G signals over the past five years, but...)
