    How to check monthly minutes balance on an Optimus v

    I'd like to be able to check my minutes balance without logging in or using an app. The FAQ's at Virgin say you can also check from your phone by pressing and holding the $ Key (or the up arrow). Apparently you can do this 5 times a day for no charge.

    However, having an Optimus I can't figure out how to do this as I don't have a keypad with a $ or an up arrow key. Can someone help a confused brother out?

    Download the free third-party app "Minutes Checker" from the Market. It's the best way to check your balance from an Android phone. The developer posts in this forum sometimes.

    Download Minutes Checker for Virgin Mobile from the market. Great little app! I only wish it had a widget.

    Thanks but I don't want minutes checker. I already downloaded it. Isn't there another way?

    I think if you call VM, it doesn't use airtime minutes, but I'm not totally sure on that. I know you can hear your minutes balance that way.

    So there is no USSD code or dialing shortcut to find out your balance in minutes on a prepaid plan? That sucks.

    Yeah I was bummed when I first got my Optimus and couldn't check with dialpad... but after using Minutes Checker:

    I am quite happy. It's only 31 kb, and checks minutes and balance much faster than the dial in method.

    I have minutes checker and it is ok. However if you use it when 3G is disconnected and no wireless signal is available you have to reenter the pass code. That's ok for my phone but I'd like to install the app on my pre-teen daughter's phone but I don't want to give her the pass code. I may just install it on hers and if she uses it with no network access I'll just have to reenter the code for her later.

    *86 then the phrase "check balance" will work too and the call doesn't count toward your minutes.

    What did the software's author say when you notified him of this issue?

    great app, thx for the heads up. VM should pay the author to develop it and make it official including allowing to top up account and other features. No reason for them not to have something like this really.

    Thanks, but the author doesn't know me (that I know of). If you contact him hopefully he will fix the bug, and then the app will fill all your needs (and be better for all the other app users).

    His web site is http://www.jaygoel.com/, where he has contact info. He also has the source code on his site, so if you know how to code and have some time, you can create and submit a patch to fix the bug.
