Yep. I agree with eddieroolz experience. But that's only for the camera part on my SH-07B. The rest of the SH-07B is covered with a thin layer of clear plastic. It looks some sort of liquid gel that Sharp used and the rest of the phone doesn't show hairline cracks at all.

Yep. My white iPhone showed just about no scratches compared with my friends' black iPhones.
use a pouch if you want to avoid scratches
The grey external display is under the same clear coat layer as the rest of the front fascia.

Sometimes it feels it would be easiest just to get both and switch off between them, but that is not very practical. Seems the general consensus is that the white stays in better condition due to its color (scratches not showing) does the white plastic detract from the screen when watching videos or surfing the web?
They are robust. Just that any clear coating/acrylic is prone to hairline scratches no matter how well they're made. Also, like yamanote mentioned, the box is the sub display and its flush with the acrylic panel.
Just keep in mind that since the phone is a flip model the screen itself won't likely have any scratches. My SH-06A still has a pristine screen, in fact.
You can easily get a screen protector for the internal screen, since that's not curved.
As another member said, there are even protectors for the external panel, so scratches shouldn't be a major worry.
Just choose the color that you like.
Also does the inside of the white model look/feel cheap at all? I haven't had the phone in my hands, so I can only tell what I see from pictures and rely on the information I am graciously provided.
You can get screen protectors and external protectors from Yahoo Auctions Japan
