So from my experience with this unit over the weekend, I noticed that the device would only charge if I plugged in an Micro-USB AC adapter with a low amperage. I first tried an adapter with an amperage of 200mA and it was charge only. Then I tried another from a cellphone I had with me that I think was something around 2.0A and that adapter allowed me to be connected while charging. The spec for USB ports is something like 500-600mA. I know some laptops to be set so that more juice will be outputted, but that's probably the reason why people are having different experiences with different adapters and laptops.

To the Novatel MiFi users: Have you been able to use 3G during this 4G outage? My Samsung SCH-LC11 has been unable to provide 3G coverage during the 4G outage. Even though the device indicates a 3G connection to the network, it never receives DNS information from the Verizon server so it doesn't get an IP address. My iPhone and my 3G MiFi device (which I dropped back to during the day) both work fine in the same locations the 4G hotspot is failing. Verizon tech support told me it's because my "4G hotspot has a SIM card and SIM cards don't work when 4G is down." Odd, since I was previously able to use the LC-11 as a 3G hotspot when outside of 4G coverage.

Any of you 4G Novatel users able to check your 3G connection during this outage?

    Antennae for the 4510L.....?

Verizon offers two different antennas in their accessories list for the 4510L, one magnetic and the other suction cup. They also offer an adapter cable.

    1. If you order one of the two different antennas, do you also need to order the adapter cable?

    2. Which the the 2 antennas performs better?

    3. Any general suggestions on antennas?

Yes, though I can't comment on the other two questions as I haven't actually used my suction cup antenna yet.

How is this antennae working for you? Has it really improved your signal?

Could someone please post a link to the antenna for the 4510L? I've been searching on Verizon Wireless, but can't find it. Thanks.

[QUOTE=swtrader;14369034]Sounds like you have experience with both. Which would you recommend the Samsung SCH-LC11 or the Notatel 4510L?

I also have both and highly recommend the 4510L over the Samsung. I found I could not rely on the Sanmsung even sitting at the same desk. One day it would be fine, the next day, not so much. The 4510L is consistently stable and strong.

I wish I would have known about Verizon's antenna I spent nearly $100 on a Wilson 301157 antenna + cable adapter for my USB card.

Not really. I'm using it indoors (office building) and its barely noticeable. I just needed something small and the Wilson was the only thing at the time I could find for 4G.

I'm in a grey area inside of the building. I can move around or position the card in such a way to get 4G. An inch off and I get 3G but very unstable. So I just needed a slight boost. Outside the bars are lit up and the entire area where I'm at is LTE.

I ordered the suction cup antenna and cable. I called the verizon stores and this is an item they don't stock, online only.

I just got a 4510L at the Verizon Store this afternoon and the sales guy told me something that I wanted to verify with other users here. He said that if my device is in 4G (green) it will fall back to 3G if I travel out of 4G range (makes sense); however once my device goes into 3G mode I must physically turn it off and back on to get it to re-connect to a 4G signal. I found that a little odd as I assume that it would roll from one state to the other and back as the signal was available (my test case is using in car while driving from LA to San Diego - both 4G cities, but possibly not in between).

Does this sound right to you - or have any of you experienced this?

    Thanks!
Thanks for mentioning this. This confirms my theory that the 4510 is not making a best effort to lock on to 4G when in a 3G/4G zone. In the admin interface under the WWAN tab, it allows for selecting a specific data connection type such as Global, LTE Only, EVDO only, 1xRTT only, etc, but is ridiculous to make such choices as signals vary, and data protocols change.

Power cycling will solve the problem as you said, but is unacceptable for my needs. I am returning the unit before my 14-day evaluation period.

This has been tested between San Francisco and East Bay.
