    Network change and network codes

As some may know already all networks will eventually be consolidated into network 26. When your network gets changed to the new network your display may change.

I have been notified that my network will change from 310-20 to 310-26 on October 20, 2003.

If you call customer care and ask them when your network ID text will change they can tell you. If you find out please post when your network will change to this thread. Thanks!

Do you have any idea whether this is for the whole former Omnipoint (310-16) area?

I know the change for WA/OR/ID in October will be for the whole network (310-20.)

The area consisting of Buffalo and Rochester was not actually a former Omnipoint market but was built from the ground up from what I've been told. There was never service here by any other name until September 2002 with the T-Mobile launch. They used the 310-16 MNC when building the network.

I believe the Boston market which recently underwent this change in the past week is also 310-16.

So yes...it does appear they may be doing all of 310-16 at the moment.

Sometime between 11PM EST (July 21) and 3AM EST (July 22) the MNC in Rochester was changed. I assume this affected all of upstate including BUF.

If you call T-M CC they can tell you when it will change.

    I did
    Twice

One rep told me he didn't have access to that info, but that every market was going to get switched sooner or later (well duh!) and the other rep asked me what a MNC was and since I didn't know what it stands for I think I looked like an idiot as well

You're getting too "H-F" ish for 'em. Reps don't know what an MNC or what SMS is for that matter.

I don't know if this will work for you, but try this: Tell them that you've heard that at some future point the display on your phone will change and that it says Vstream or Voicestream and that you heard that there will be a change where it will then show T-Mobile instead. See if that helps. Ask whether they know what the date for the change in your area is going to be. You might get lucky and get someone who knows about that stuff. They've all received a memo that this will happen and also they should have the information on when it's supposed to be for the different markets.

Don't forget that there's a good bet that most of us on HF know more about the technical bits of how systems work than do the customer care reps. They're mostly there to deal with billing and that sort of thing. If you want to talk technical stuff you'd be better off speaking or communicating with someone elsewhere other than at T-M CC.

    Very true.

I called on 3 different occasions. One person searched the search engine and could not locate the info. But then again he was looking for MMC and not MNC.

The two other folks I spoke with knew exactly what I was talking about. One had "seen that list a short time ago" and was able to locate the info very quickly and the other put me on hold and gave it to me shortly after.

310-17(0) The same as cingular as T-Mobile uses cingular's network in CA & NV.
