    Anyone used the Buzz yet?

I'm looking for cheap mobile email, and the Buzz looks interesting at $99.

Can't find much info about it. Anyone have it?

Decent for the price I guess. Didn't email but I did use the WAP browser & discovered that large files are blocked from downloading. Pics and ringtones are fine for downloading but not apps. Can't say what size of attachments may download with emails.

By the look of menus in Buzz it appears Public is readying a online store for downloads.
Speeds are 1x and Public calls that 2.75g

I have used it. It is a great phone on the voice side, perhaps Public's best in terms of call quality. It is great on the text side too. Nice responsive keyboard. The SMS messages are NOT divided into conversations the way they are on a Blackberry. The data is very disappointing. Web browsin is so slow that it is unusable. Large attachments are restricted from download. The email is alright, but it isn't push email. You must go in and check your messages. There is no wifi. If the phone had wifi it would make up in part for its slow 1x browsing. Oh ya... browsing is WAP only. Not a good experience.

Like everything Public does the Buzz is a second-class limited divice that doesn't live up to its....Buzz!

I tried out the buzz too and I have to agree that its great as voice phone, but browsing is pretty much unusable unless you are at a specifically formatted wap page. The speed is not bad (for 1x) and for the email application, more than suitable.

Not true, the main accounts (the ones that appear on the main setup page) are push email (Gmail, yahoo, exchange etc) I think. Not sure about other pop3 emails ...

POP3 is not push, it's fetch. Now IMAP ...

Agreed it is not but pm is using some kind of relay service to give push email for at least the main free email services

Its true because there is a bit of a delay in getting the email. My friend has a Buzz. On the whole it fakes push email quite well.

I purchased a BUZZ yesterday from Public Mobile. I have to say, it's the worst piece of garbage I have ever bought. The web browsing capabilities are practically useless. Navigation is poor and the menus are very poorly designed. If you're thinking you are getting a blackberry alternative, think again. I am very disappointed with this phone.. I tried to return it, but apparently I spent 30 mins on the phone with tech support over why Google Maps doesn't function. And, if you go over 30mins, no returns/refunds/exchanges... So, I'm stuck with the worst phone ever.. I should have dropped the 300$ on the Blackberry Curve, at least it doesn't look like a 4yr old designed the GUI. And at least browsing websites isn't impossible, like the BUZZ.

Public Mobile shouldn't buy China-made and designed garbage. You've been warned! (I wish I was...)

Thanks for the info. This is good to know.

I ended up buying a Nokia C3 from Walmart and putting a petro canada sim in it. For $10/month I get unlimited browsing and email. It's slow (edge) but the phone itself is not bad - wifi, nice keyboard.

What is the Brand of the Buzz phone?

    edit:

The device is made by Teleepoch Ltd. It is not sold anywhere else in the world, although a similar device is sold by Open Mobile in Puerto Rico and is called the V1.

I find it amazing that people would compare a $99 phone to a BlackBerry just because of the form factor. I tried one of these phones a few weeks ago, intending to buy one as a back up phone for my girlfriend. If you're looking for a phone to be used as a phone but also has OK text and email capabilities, then the Buzz is a not bad buy. WIND just came out with the U6150 @ $98 which also has those functions but is a far superior phone if you're also looking for browsing capabilities but neither phone has anywhere near the funtionality or ease of use a BlackBerry has, but then they're 2.5 times cheaper than a Curve. You pay your money you take your choice.
