If you are on .588, you are going to have to get to .595 in order to get the OTA update. In order to get the official OTA push, you have to be on stock Froyo or stock .595 GB.

Since the .588, there was the .591 update to it, and then the .595 update to that. Once you are on .595 you have the pathway to get the final OTA version rumored to be .596.......on May 13th.

can i go from .588 to.591 to .596 with out wipping data?
My motto as a VERIZON agent- Treat the customer the way you want to be treated, if you treat them like crap dont complain when they treat you like crap. If I lose a sale I dont lose sleep over it I move on. Some people never buy from my store oh well $10 transfer fee. Some people are mad at the world, doesnt affect me.

In order to get the .596 OTA update, you have to be on .340 or .595.

If you stop at 591, you are not going to get the official 596 OTA update.

If you are on 588 now, you need to go to 591, then go to 595, then wait.

Just installed 595. So far no real difference although they say that you need to be on 595 to get the official gingerbread update from VZW.

588 was a 112mb file, 591 was a 10mb file, and 595 is a 8 mb file. 591 and 595 are just small updates to 588, and 595 includes the needed pathway to get the OTA 596 dropping this weekend.

595 does seem a bit quicker or snappier then 588 did, so they must have cleaned a few things up and fixed a few things as well.

is the update on its way?

I am not sure if this is an indication that the update is coming soon. When I went to Settings->About phone->Check for updates I got the following error "Check for update was not available at this time. Try again later". I know this could mean that the update server is just down or may be they are preparing the servers for the GB update. Not sure what to make of this.

Latest update...................ONLY STOCK FROYO will get the OTA Gingerbread update. No exceptions, no other options, no leaked versions of GB.............nothing but stock Froyo.

So, for all of use on 588, 591, or 595..............it's SBF back to Froyo, or sit and wait for the 596 version to be made available for download.

Screw Gingerbread.........I'm waiting for Ice Cream Sandwich now.

That's interesting. Once I moved from .588 back to the .340 SBF, I decided to wait until the .596 OTA was sent out, or a rooted version was out.
By the way, any word yet on when the .596 OTA is going to hit?

Well the last word was Friday the 13th............that never happened.

Now the word is after the X2 drops on the 26th they will push the OTA to the X.

.595 and .596 (OTA) are virtually identical, only difference is going to be the bootloader. So with that said, I'm very happy on stock .595...........if/when the OTA does come out, I'll look into it and see if it's worth doing the work to get it.

Latest I've heard is after the X2 drops, which is on the 26th.

I'm very happy on stock .595 GB............no need to wait when it's readily available.

I'm kind of bummed that the X2 is going to have 2.2 on it with an update to 2.3.
Maybe they are going to release the same Gingerbread OTA update for both the X and X2 at the same time?

I'm getting a used stock (probly Froyo, but idk) DX this w/e. I don't know whether it's had any previous OTAs applied. I want to root it, but I'm a newbie at all this root stuff, so I don't want to rush.
If the OTA for GB is applied to my phone, will that make it harder (or easier) for me to root it later?
Are the OTAs downloaded and applied automatically? Or do I have to choose to download and apply it?
If the process is automatic, is there anything I could do -- short of rooting it before I feel ready -- to block the OTA from being applied?
Or do I want the update to be applied before I root?
