    Nokia E71 Original Firmware

I have the Nokia E71 from Straight Talk. Other day I decided to upgrade the firmware on it by changing its product code via NNS. Now in the access points it shows AT&T MMS and Media Net, both say something about Packet data error. What I am wanting to know is there a way to flash it back to the ORIGINAL firmware it would of came with from Straight Talk? the one that had like Tracfone Multimedia listed on it. I also was going to try manually adding it in the APN control but that keeps asking for a PIN2 code and keeps saying code error.

Have you tried using 0000 for the PIN2 code? Or see if you can attempt to change the PIN2 code from the Settings menu.
If that doesn't work then you might see if the E71 User manual that came in the StraightTalk package will help, or CS.

Unfortunately there is no firmware that exists online that will bring back the Tracfone APN settings. It was installed at the factory (or possibly wherever America Movil packages their phones) and it doesn't exist in Nokia's servers. Go figure.

If/Since you're using Windows, there Nokia's Configuration Tool that can upload config profiles for the E71. Read through the instructions carefully. That might also solve your dilemma. You will probably need to remove the AT&T APN and MMS settings manually before using the Config tool, just to be on the safe side.

I don't have physical access to the Windows computer I updated my e71 to the latest firmware with (I did the same NNS trick as you and had no hiccups using the config tool post-flash), but I believe I have a config saved with the Straight Talk APNs still. When I can get access to the computer, I'll see if I still have the config setup. If I do, I'll try to post it.

Yeah the config file would be greatly appreciated, I dont use web all that much flashed it like 3 days ago and just noticed today that had changed, If I could find the config I could manually enter it all in, so if you can find that config file let me know thanks.

My e71 had the latest firmware already on it from the factory. Why mess with it?

500.21.009 if memory serves correctly. All you need is to use the iphone settings thread and make the correct profiles in the connection settings.

I'm going to answer my own question since I did some trial and error last night with changing the Product Code on my E71 to let me upgrade to the latest version. The latest version is 501.21.001 (release 10-08-2010). I successfully used the Product Code 0559585 and Nokia Software Updater to get the update. The guide located here was very helpful.

Good news all, lol.. maybe for me at least, i upgraded to the latest firmware since i had done a hard reset! then my Ovi store wouldn't work.. so be warned, do not perform a hard reset.. lucky me up being about to update to this firmware it installs the new Ovi store, thus making it work.. so that was a neat workaround.

If you get the data packet error, don't panic.. follow this steps to get data working!

    1. put phone into offline mode.
    2. go to menu, go to tools, go to settings, go into connection, lastly go into "Access points"/
    3. go to the MedIa Net profile and press, press options, then press edit..
    4. change to the following:

Connection name to "home" exactly as I typed.

    skip data bearer..

came access point name to "att.mvno"

click on username and delete the user name it has setup, it should show "wap@cingulargprs.cpm" just delete it all and press okay or done, after it should show none.

    skip prompt password.

    skip password.

    I changed authentication to secure.

homepage can be changed to whatever homepage you want for internet application!

    5. this is it for data! I'm going to see about MMS soon... hopefully this helps some people and sorry for messy guide!

    edit: FOR MMS!!

for MMS just go to the "AT&T MMS" setting in access points and change access point to "att.mvno" as we did with the home access point and thats it! you can enjoy the new E71 firmware with working data and MMS!
