Sorry to bump such an old thread. But I'm wondering how are the coverage/reception/quality now in vancouver/richmond. Still the same or got worse?

only coverage issues i run into are when i'm in an underground parking lot or skytrain, or if i'm up in the mountains. other than that the coverage is pretty solid in the lower mainland. i don't go out to the tri-cities very often so can't comment there. u will hit a dead spot ever so often, but it only lasts a few seconds.
and in all honesty, anyone who jumped on the holiday miracle plan when it was available really can't biatch. my bill is roughly $45/month, down from around $75/month. i'm saving over $350/year with a waaaay better plan. so i can take a few hiccups on the way to wind becoming a national carrier. screw robellus.

Right now WIND works well for me in Richmond and Vancouver (which I stay the most), friends who roam about more said they got some drops and poor signals here and there but not too bad. Some of us who have both Mobi and WIND (myself included), all agree that Mobi has even more holes so relatively speaking WIND is not the worst (but sound quality wise WIND is the worst in fidelity, but that is not because of signal).
I have a couple of dead spots in my residence (in Richmond, central) and it has been same as ever, no improvement nor not worse either.
Mobi has been quite strong at my place but I won't trust it going to lots of places.
Overall, I think WIND is as good as when Fido or ClearNET were about 2 years old. Basically this is like what was then, may be even a little better.

I live in the North East corner of Coquitlam, up Burke Mountain. and work in Richmond (6 Rd and Westminster Highway.) I never have coverage issues outdoors or on my car. At home coverage is weak but consistent even in the basement (0-1 bar) even though the nearest tower is at least 2.5km away. Because I'm on the very edge of the Wind Home zone, occasionally my phone will briefly roam on Wind Away if it doesn't find Wind Home immediately after restarting. Unfortunately, at work I'm on the ground floor of a concrete building and my phone drops from around 2 bars outside to Emergency Calls Only (WIND has roaming disabled because it's well within the Wind Home zone) inside even by the windows.
I haven't call them but I've reported it via Network Builder several times. I'm assuming it won't be resolved unless they build a tower around here. Even on Coverage Mapper it looks like driving by on Westminster Highway there's a weak spot. I've tried making comments that this is a high tech park and that they could probably pick up some subscribers if they had decent coverage but I'm not sure anyone even reads the Network Builder submissions. I know some of my coworkers were itching to join WIND when the launched but now they laugh at the fact that I don't have coverage inside the building and are sticking with the Big 3.
All I can think of, when I'm reading your post bwalter, is what a long and horrible commute you must endure everyday...

At the moment, Wind is noticeably, but not all that much, better than Mobilicity. I get coverage in areas I didn't before, less dropped calls. My GF is still on Mobilicity, and usually if one of us doesn't have reception in an area it'll be her.
This is a complete reversal of how it was when Mobilicity launched.
The word 'Pentaband' means '5 Bands', from the Greek word 'pente' meaning '5'. For a phone to be pentaband it has to support 5 bands. If the phone has AWS support, it doesn't automatically mean that it is pentaband. The reason Wind and Mobilicity users like pentaband phones is because the reverse is true. We're not the only ones who like pentaband phones though, so please stop referring to phones that work on Wind and Mobilicity as pentaband. It causes unnecessary cofusion.
Can anyone provide any speedtests throughout Metro Van? I can barely find any as most tests are from Toronto. I heard the speeds in Vancouver are slow compared to Toronto.
It varies a lot but I tend to see 2500-4000kbps up and 250-350kbps down. Of course it can be better or worse at times. I'm using a Galaxy Nexus and most of my tests have been in various parts of Coquitlam or Burnaby. I have tested downtown Vancouver once or twice and seem to recall I got similar numbers there.
Wait do you mean 2500-4000kbps down and 250-350kbps up? If so then it seems as if the speeds are pretty much the same as Mobi, maybe a bit faster at best.
That's roughly what I was getting too, although speeds are similar to Mobi during peak hours.
