If you are tethering using PDANET

You might want to upgrade to 3.0 it offers masking tethering.

may be worth looking into -- however, i think most people on here that tether just use the native app that is "hidden" on the optimus v.

i personally only use it in absolute emergencies -- not because i am anti-tether but because it just isn't that reliable for me and even when it works well its still only 3g speed.

You may also want to watch for Google to shut off access to PDAnet if Virgin Mobile asks them to do so.

Google plays ball with carriers to kill tethering apps

I'll stick with Barnacle. You can always side-load a tethering app if Google pulls it from the market.

On the Optimus V, for some odd reason the native Hotspot feature is unlocked and able to be used. However, there is no native toggle to enable it. To get passed this all the user has to do is find any widget to enable the feature, such as Quick Settings or Extended Controls. There is no rooting or changing of any settings required.
