I like the speed dial feature, find out how to set it up going to Menu >Settings >Phone >Information >Device Guide >Idle widget. After set up you can access up to 9 contacts with just a swipe.
I've not found a quick way to find contacts in the contact list. The search function seems to be the quickest, the swipe method is hard to control.

I was using an LG900G and switched to an LG800G.

Pair them in Bluetooth on your phones.

On my 900G, I went into Contacts, Settings, Send all contacts Via Bluetooth. Choose which device you want to send it to, and send.

Pairing these phones is for transferring contacts?

    ST to IPhone http://goo.gl/bYd8e

    ST to Windows Phone http://goo.gl/MMuZH
Tracfone CS at 800-876-5753 or 800-626-4883
To re-provision your ST/Verizon phone dial *22890 and follow the directions.

The vcf file is under the "Others" folder.

Update: It works! After you add other contacts, you have to delete the existing ones on the phone before restore. Otherwise, you will have duplicates. It is not smart enough to merge the new ones with the old ones. I use notepad++ (freeware from http://notepad-plus-plus.org/) to edit the file. I was not able to use notepad. If you want to play with it, make sure you backup your vcf file before doing any editing.
Microsoft Excel will also allow the edit of a vcf file.

I will download notepad++ to see if it's similar to or better than updating the vcf file in Excel

To me notepad++ is easier because I am already using it to edit other files. Give Excel a try and let us know.

I tested by deleting all contacts and then performing a restore. If you saved a contact's birthday or anniversary date in the calendar, I believe that it is deleted from the calendar when you delete the contact and if you restore the contact, the date is not restored to the calendar.

Since this is my first "smart phone", I'm not sure if that is standard behavior.

I installed notepad++. You're right - it's a matter of personal preference or what you're used to - working in an open text format or working with spreadsheet cells.

I'll keep the notepad++ installed as another tool in the toolbox. Thanks for pointing me to it.

    tiny icons at top

Just learning how to use my new 800G ... one thing that's puzzling me is a tiny icon at the very top of the screen, that's showing up next to the tiny sound icon. Looks kinda like a cassette recorder, or something. No idea what it is, and can't find a list of operating icons / screen symbols with definitions. Any help?

It indicates you have a microSD card installed.

no, I don't. Haven't put one in yet. it's a strange little icon , sort of rectangular with 2 small circles inside ( like reels on a cassette)

Do you mean the icon to the left of the speaker icon? It indicates you have voice mail.

I believe you'r right! I did just find a list of symbols for another LG model, which lead me to that as the answer. So I WAS right ... it is supposed to be a graphic resembling an old cassette ( as if anyone remembers the old tape version answering machines!)

No one has mentioned nor explained the upper right icon under the micro SD symbol and battery charge indicator. It is the solid blue circle containing a solid white square overlapping a solid white circle. Has anyone stumbled across what it indicates? Wondering if it was for something Trac left off their version of this phone.

Isn't that indicate you are on the short cut screen? If you switch to contact short cut screen, the icon turns gray.

Thanks, I see it now. There are two circles up top (red or grey left and blue or grey right) , matching the blue or red color of the up and down button areas for the two type of shortcut screens. Grey indicates that screen is not being displayed.
