No no no!!! The memory icon is on the main page next to the battery meter! The little icon you want is on the bottom left of the message screen. It's a little black square with white lines running thru it!

External SD memory showing with red "X" on it

I've put in my uSD card from my previous phone with contacts and music but the LG800g shows the little icon between the speaker and battery condition icons with a small red x in the corner of it. The external memory choice in the settings menu is also not active/grayed out. What's up with that? I can see all the data if I put the card into my computer (ubuntu linux or win7) so I know the card is functional, but the LG says "nada". Bad phone? Should I return it for another, or is there some format issue? That user manual is soooo helpful.

BTW, it's only a 2Gb card so there should not be a problem with memory size unless there is some restriction that it *has* to be 4Gb and *only* 4Gb.

    What the ...?,
The first thing I would try is take it out and then reinsert it to make sure the card is inserted and locked in properly and making good contact. I never tried anything but 4GB cards so I have no input on the card size and if that could be an issue.

    hideous unlock

Does anybody have a hideous "unlock" button with three bars that prompts you to unlock the phone when you receive a call?

I have "Power Saver" disabled and I always tap the Power button up top to lock the phone down when not it use. When phone rings I tap the Power button and push a button to answer phone. Then that demon of a button pops up demanding that I "unlock' the phone.

I like using the speaker phone, but I've got to push that darn button and by that time people on other end are yelling, "Hello, anybody there?"

Another thing, the time to answer this machine is very short. Any way to lengthen the time before it disconnects?

1 more item; has anybody got the "Oval" crop tool to work while editing pictures. I can crop using the rectange, but the "save" icon will not active when using the "oval".

Thanks, and BTW, hi to all.

The phone automatically locks during calls to prevent you from touchscreening with your face. A pretty smart feature, if you ask me. The Send, End, and arrow hard buttons are useable even when the phone is locked during a call.

Also, I discovered a nice shortcut to create a new message. Hold down the message icon at the botom from the main screen.

Anyone find any good working apps? I'm looking for an offline dictionary and some games

    User's Manyal

I switched from Flip-Motorola Tracfone to the LG800g very recently. I love the phone but HATE the User's Manual/Guide. Worthless. Incomplete. No Googling gets me direct answers. And here's my few, first questions to the more knowledgeable here on the forum:

    1. How do I eliminate annoying sounds with every keystroke and letter entry in messaging? The vibrate alkone is adequate.

    2. Is there any way to get images off the phone other than emailing them?

    3. IS there a single, better User's Guide anywhere for the LG800g?

Believe me, I shall NEVER ever buy another phone before determining that there's good information about how to use it out there.

    Corky,

You can use BT to get/send the pictures to a computer.

If you have a micro-SD card (4GB max for the phone) you can put the pics on it and then use a USB cable for transfers. (USB only sees the SD card, not the internal memory).

I don't know if it's "hideous." It is a rather smart feature that locks-out the touchscreen while you're using this phone in voice mode. Otherwise, you'll be doing all kinds of things to it with your face, each time you inadvertently touch it. A friend has a Verizon phone (forgot the mfg & model) but she is always beeping and cutting herself off in mid-sentence simply by forcing things to happen with her phone whenever her face touches the screen. Also I put mine in my pocket a lot (I love the size for that). Without the lock-screen function I'd be causing it to call out to speed dials from my pocket -- not a very good way to converse with people from your pocket. I don't think "hideous" is at all the right way to describe it. How about smart or handy-dandy?

    regards...

I agree the documentation with this phone is nothing but sketchy and bad. When I first started using this phone I found this Web-site was a bit useful for understanding the phone's features.

Give it a try see if it helps any...

Thank you to textin & drivin

Corky says you've gotten me to the best tutorial guide on the LG800g EVER!. I'll have to search further now but would appreciate any direct guidance on how to CUT OUT THE ANNOYING KEYSTROKE SOUNDS! Apps n stuff will follow but I'll peruse that good guide first.

    Check out Corky at www.corkybuchon.com

I'll still call it hideous because I hardly ever hold it to my face to talk. I like to use speakerphone.
I don't use the Auto lock. I use the tap on the power button. That keeps me from dialing speed dials.
I don't think it's very handy at all.

The lock feature should go away when you tap/push the power button to manually unlock the phone.
