I have a 2GB card in my LG800G(I didn't have a 4GB card handy). Works fine. I removed the 2GB card and put in a 8GB card. The phone didn't "see" it - in the Memory screen (settings -> phone -> memory Info the external memory line is greyed out.
I am hoping that a software update will allow the 800G to use bigger microSD cards.

All the other forums are full of posts with no one specifically having a solution on which memory cards will work. Trac slipped up with not providing Info on this. Its obvious their CSR don`t know anything on this subject.
A 2GB microSD card works in my LG800G
A 8GB microSD card does NOT work
When I get a 4GB card I will try it and post.
This is based on my actual experience, not on what I was told or what little I read and believe. If I read it and do not believe it, it doesn't count :-(
I asked Tracfone (through an email message to their technical support) what type/size micro SD card would fit into the LG800G phone. Here’s the answer they gave me:
Thank you for your interest in TracFone Wireless. We are responding to your recent inquiry.
As of the moment, TracFone Wireless does not support this kind of service as of this time. Nevertheless, be assured that we are continually working on improving and expanding our products and services. You have option to insert a Micro SD card but we cannot assure you that it will work because it still depends on your phone capacity and memory. You may check the phone’s feature by visiting the website at http://www.lg.com and search for the phone model.
Of course that model doesn’t show up at that site. And the details for the LG800G at Tracfone’s web site even states (3rd bullet in their details): APP Capable (App download requires purchase of additional memory) – additional memory means micro SD card!
While I don't have a link to the article, I read that the LG800G will go as hi as 4 gigs. Sometimes hardware will see more than it is supposed to, but with these phones it looks like 4 is the limit, since two people have posted that the phone will not recognize 8 gig cards.
You are right, they don't have a clue
Here is an email from tracfone, (on May 5th 2011) [B]stating it will take 8 gig
An 8 gig card does not work on my phone...

I sure do appreciate having an alternative soure of information - like Howardforums
I am guessing that is Trac was at all competient they would have closed all loopholes allowing you to get anything on or off the phone except by paying to send/receive it. When they contracted for several phone models, it appears someone slipped up, and connectivity was not completely shut off. In some ways we are lucky Trac is so encompetent.
