They're just text messages, but when I receive the emails, I get these .gif attachments

I think that's why it's costing me 1.50 minute everytime I try to forward something Maybe that happens with just tmobile text?

Anyway, thanks tfusr19, I'll have to try that sim card reader sometime.

Yes. it must be T-mobile, it doesn't happen with ATT. Before I posted my response to you, I verified with my own ATT-based phone that it got charged texting rates.

    How To and Question:

Just got 500g and testing it out. I like super-simple backgrounds and wallpapers, dark colors or simple gradients. The standard graphics on the 500g are cartoonish and juvenile IMO. I created simple .jpgs, 170 x 220px, copied to my Samsung Intercept, then used BT to send to the 500g.

I made a simple black .jpg and selected it as "Wallpaper" for my home screen. Calendar and yellow fonts contrast really well and its super easy to read. (I'm experimenting with this phone to see if it might work for my senior parents, so simplicity and high-contrast is important)

QUESTION: The procedure above only works for the main screen. If I select "Menu" the screen backgrounds behind the home screen do not change. I still have a goofy blue flower and snowflakes, and other screens are from the "Blue" "Handset Theme". Is there any way to entirely change the "Handset Theme" to something simple?

    Thanks

    Which version?

Did you ever get an answer to the question of which version to download? I followed the thread, but did not see which version of Mini Opera I need for the LG500. Thanks for any help.

Both Opera Mini 6.5 and 4.4 are known to work. You can install them both at the same time, if you want. You want to be sure to get the "All Certificates" signed version to avoid getting constant "Opera Mini wants to connect to the Internet Y-N?" prompts.

    To download it:
Using LG500g's browser go to http://m.opera.com.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click "other download options"

On the next page scroll down to "Options for Opera Mini 6.5" (or 4.4) and click "Select Code- Signing Certificate"

On the next page click "All Certificates"

On the next page click "Download Opera Mini 6.5" (or 4.4)

Hi wildcard101 and welcome to the forums!

Actually no need to go into the engineering mode and do all that which you describe. By default you can connect a computer to the LG500G and transfer files to/from the LG500G.

Maybe you were thinking of the LG501c, the 500's look-a-like which by default does not permit transfer by USB port? I don't have a LG501c to see if this would work.

If the phone will charge but not transfer data, the first thing to suspect is that they are using a charging cable, not a data/charging cable. Try the phone with a known good data cable. If it works, then the problem is the first cable.

Well.... here is what I have found.
Make sure you have a good cable.

I tried a known good cable, and it workes great...
    Easy as pie.
I bought a brand new cable, listed as data/charging on eBay...
I don't know if it charges, but it sure don't transfer!
I plugged the Kindle cable in, and it was just like reading a flash drive..

Just thought I'd pass that on......
This is what I was trying to answer about getting phone to hookup to computer i have the same phone and that's what I had to do to get it connected as a removable disk

How? Did you download a program? Or an app for the Lg500G to convert videos to .3GP?

I'm trying to get rid of a number showing up in my recently used recipients list for text messages. (New Text Message-->Add Recipient-->Recently Used) I had some wrong number texts sent to me, told the sender "I'm not who you're looking for.", and now their number is there in the list and I cannot find a way to get rid of it. I figure it will move down the list, if I texted often. I don't. That list will never grow. I have five names/numbers in that list and this one I would love to get rid of.

    Anybody got any ideas?

BTW: Thanks to all of you guys!! I've been lurking a little while, and got rid of some of problems already!

    old thread, follow on "E"

I recently ported to TF. Before I ported I had a TF assigned #, and a SIM that was on T-mobile. It was very good. Excellent signal everywhere I needed to be. After I ported, they sent me a new SIM, and after installing it, got the "E" next to signal bars, and also got a welcome text message from ATT. The service now is not good. Variable signal, worse voice quality. I'm going to complain and see if I can get a SIM back on T-mobile, but the TF system is archaic, and its ridiculous to have to wait for them to ship you a SIM. Snail-mail to make a phone work= dumb.

If TF can't swap it, I'll probably just go directly to T-mobile. Before I ported, my "main" number was on Virgin Mobile, so now I know that for where I live, the Sprint and ATT networks are flakey. T-mobile is good, and of course Verizon is good.

Number of bars is pretty meaningless and not comparable with the number of bars on a different make or model of phone. You should be able to make calls, use the web, text even with one bar and that's what really matters

Compare the ending of the SIM Model numbers for the old and new phones; C4 = AT&T, T5 = T-Mobile
    Also first 6 digits of SIM S/N, 890126 = T-Mobile, 890141 = AT&T

T-Mobile cost Tracfone less, they should be happy to send a T-Mobile SIM.

I just got this phone after coming from Sprint and an EVO 4G. Downsizing was necessary due to budget reasons but this is a decent prepaid phone. It does what I want it to do.

    Toshiba Thrive • Stock ROM
B&N Nook Color • Mirage Kang 7.2 ROM
Samsung Galaxy Prevail • Nemesis 1.3 ROM
