Nothing would be lost if all the offending trash posting was deleted. Request submitted.

HOW TO KEYLOCK THE LG500G FOR THE DUMMY (me.)

Exit all menus back to the main screensaver. Locate the lower left key with the padlock on it. PRESS and HOLD. The screen will display the message that the keys are locked.

TO UNLOCK: press any key to activate the screen. Press the upper left button with UNLOCK over it - a screen pops up telling you to press the upper right button with YES over it. Press , ONCE , because it becomes the dreaded BROWSE button on unlock.

This and much more in the yellow paged section, "Using your Tracphone," in the Services Guide packed in the clamshell, section 3.13.

IIRC my old TF Nokia bar phone was the same - and the Browser key on it easy to hit, too.

Ignore the squabbling, keep posting things that positively help users.

THANK YOU Tirod. This is exactly what I was looking for. There's nowhere in the manual that comes with the phone that explains this and no where on the phone. Just an auto keylock function but doesn't tell you how to unlock it or anything else about it. Tired of having my phone make random calls. Thank you for posting this.

OH, one more thing. Gawd awful place to have the lock key.....IMHO.

The locking is in the "manual" that comes with the phone. That's where Tirod said he found the info.

And while I think the manual also says how to unlock, it so intuitive it really isn't needed.
You look at the screen and one button is labled "UNLOCK" then it tells you on screen what to do next.

What's "intuitive" for a high tech user isn't so much for an old cave man like me.

The user manual - that cellophane wrapped thing that isn't the discount calendar - does have some basic instructions to get you into the phone to use it. The problem is that it's titled "Services," not "User Manual."

Be advised, the other links for manuals to similar phones from LG don't work the same - especially the keylock.

The 2 page PDF that's floating around, titled "Quick Start Guide" is handy
    http://wontek.com/files/LG500G-Manual.pdf

Other than a few keys labeled differently, it all seems to work.

Cool No More Accidental Internet Browser Issues!!!

No More Accidental Internet Browser Issues!!!

Alright, so the dreaded misclick of the browser button can drain your minutes quickly. I should know since I sleep with my phone... I accidentally pressed it while I was sleeping, woke up with less than 100 units I'm mad. What I first did was turned my mp3 on, paused the music, and then I minimized it. When the mp3 player is minimized, you have to close it before being able to pretty much do anything on the phone. This gives you a second wall of protection if you accidentally pressed the browser button without your knowledge.

    Pros: Less accidental clicks
Cons: It might drain your battery life. Haven't checked, won't check, since I charge my phone every night.

TL;DR version: Turn your mp3 player on, pause the music, then minimize.

This will ask for confirmation if you want to turn your music off before it goes online.

Sorry if this has been posted before, it just came to me after the incident.

You can keylock it - and it can be set to do that on Auto keylock. Just found that today. It took about 20 seconds to enable, typical default delay, so Browsing could still be done with an inadvertent click. Did that again last night.

I sincerely think they actually do an ergo study and deliberately include it as part of the engineering. I had a Nokia bar that did exactly the same thing, and it goes to show the most reputable makers will go right along with TF when configuring a phone.

I had the same hitting the browser key problem with my Samsung 301. I just trained myself to never hit that button for any purpose. Most of the time I'm going to one place in the menu to do one thing and then I'm done. Hitting the End key will back out of all the menus, so I just use that instead. For 80-90% of what I do in the menus, End works just as well.

I also turned on the auto keylock on my 500G. Just got it yesterday. Lots of good tips here. Need to get a memory card and Opera Mini next.

Idiot, you're trying to run *2* browsers at the same time that are more than likely going to conflict with each other on a device like a phone.

Where *DO* people like you come from?

I am pretty certain I will buy the LG 500G to replace a buggy and boring LG420g. I'm concerned about getting the right data transfer cable the first time, though.

500g users, where did you get yours? Online, or did you find one at local retailer?
