Question Motorola SPICE users - did you unlock your phone? How? Where?

I tried a friends Wind SIM in my Spice and got the following screen on boot:
    "SIM Network unlock PIN"
and it has a box to enter a code.
So I assume the phone is locked?

Where did you buy your unlock codes?

Does Mobilicity give them for free?

Are there two codes to enter that you have to buy?

    Thanks!

I bought my unlock from www.TrustedUnlock.com as my preferred service (mobileincanada.com) was down at the time.

No ... Mobi doesn't provide an unlock. Did you just join Mobi?

    Hi, thanks for the info!

I have been with Mobilicity for several months now. Started with an HTC Snap, and have been using a Spice for a few months now.

    theunlock.ca

also unlocks the spice for $19
I cracked & signed up with Telus. I couldnt resist the Free Phone, $300 airtime credit, and EPP ($20+tax : 350mins, unlimited early evngs /wknds, cd, vm, unlimited NA txts, NO SAFS or 911) With the $300 credit its like having a free year of phone service.

    Spice unlock problems

    I unlocked mine using theunlock.ca

I'm pretty sure the unlock worked, but now the phone doesn't want to connect to Mobilicity anymore! I get the following message:

"Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network."

My local Mobilicity guy says the SIM card is OK and he got the phone to work with a Rogers SIM card. But it refuses to connect to Mobilicity, even after a "Factory Data Reset".

    Any ideas what's wrong?

    Figured it out

I think I have figured it out.

If anyone else has this problem, here's what I did:

    Dial *#*#4636#*#*

Then go to phone info. Scroll down and choose "WCDMA preferred". The phone now connects to Mobilicity and everything seems to be OK. Phew!!!

The setting was on "GSM only" for some reason. I had used a Telus SIM card to enter the unlock code. I'm guessing the Telus SIM switched the setting on the phone, so I just had to switch it back.

So, yes, you can unlock the Spice. Next test is to see if I can get the Spice to work on Telcel during an upcoming visit to Mexico City. I'll post a message when I see how it goes.

IMO, don't waste your money if you have to pay for the unlock code. Sooner or later, you will put that POS aside and get yourself a real smartphone. I rather use a dumb phone than a Spice, at least the battery of the dumb phone can last for days vs. a few hours for the Spice.

Anyone can leave Mobilicity for free. Multi-month plans can also be abandoned minus one month of payment.

It's called not paying your bill for more than 2 months. Your account will be automatically cancelled.

I'm dense because I don't need someone to do something for me that is an automatic process?
