Bravo Mr Dobbin, but from what I can tell Mobilicity doesn't give me an unlock code for any phone that I may buy.
Why not?

Mobilicity Press Release
Mobilicity urges McGuinty government to protect wireless consumers like Manitoba and Quebec
Toronto, ON – May 19, 2011 – Mobilicity today said it contacted the Ontario Minister of Consumer Services in support of Bill 133 to end unfair practices by wireless carriers.
In its letter to the Honourable John Gerretsen after his meeting with the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Associations (CWTA), Mobilicity said it fundamentally disagrees with the CWTA’s ongoing position on consumer protection laws and fully supports the proposed legislation by Ontario MPP David Orazietti...
__
MPP David Orazietti’s Bill 133, the “Wireless Phone, Smart Phone and Data Service Transparency Act”, recently passed Second reading. The goal of the bill is to make wireless contracts easier to read, reduce cancellation fees, make contracts easier to understand, remove the expiry dates on prepaid phone cards and have the carriers to “unlock” devices when customers have fully paid for them.
__
No doubt Mobilicity will soon be announcing their unlock policy.
A 3 month rule a la Wind seems fair.

Bravo Mr Dobbin, but from what I can tell Mobilicity doesn't give me an unlock code for any phone that I may buy.
Why not?
Can't any of their phones be unlocked for $10?
I'd rather not pay extra on my monthly bill so that Mobilicity can hire extra CS people to explain to you how to unlock your phone. Why not just pay the $10 directly to the unlocker once rather than paying an extra $10/yr to Mobilicity?
mjhf, some phones like the Nokia 5230 cannot be unlocked anywhere in the world except from the provider.
With WIND, their policy is 3 months and they will give you the code for free.
Mobilicity does not do give any codes.
So customers who have a Mobilicity's version as stuck and can only use it on that provider.
Granted most other phones can be unlocked by other sources but it would be great if they could implement this feature before making them looking too foolish since they say they support ending the unfair policies.

Well,at least it's a start and going in the right direction...hopefully Dobbin will make the right necessary changes in the future.
I guess that's a lot better than Wind being in court trying to prove they are Canadian after what they did and being totally unfair in the way they obtained financing that went against both Mobi/PM...you have to look at the situation as a whole and if the legislation is changed maybe the codes will also come next.If the phones are bought at a provider I say keep them locked for 3 months especially at full price with a plan and then release the codes either for free or a nominal fee.
