Nope. I don't believe so. It's not going through VZW, but through RIM's servers... Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

If I send a blackberry messenger message does that count as a text?

BB Messenger messages goes against your data allowance.
Nope. I've had a blackberry so I can attest to this.

Thanks for the replies. I tried BBM last night and it is dreadfully slow. I thought it was a chat service like GoogleTalk. But it's more like text messaging, but slower. The only way I can see this being useful is if you didn't have a text plan and wanted to save money. But that of course would require everyone you know to have a BB.
It is essentially an IM service like Google Talk. I don't know why it is going slow for you. One of the best things about BBM is that you get read receipts and if someone is typing a reply to you, you get the notification.
I'm not sure why it's going slowly for you. BBM is instanteous. It's text that has the delay.
If everyone you talked to had a blackberry, then yeah, it's very useful. Lots of people have unlimited or new unlimited texts anyway so it doesn't matter too much. BBM is really useful for talking to others with BBs in different countries. BBM has no roaming charges.
