I personally don't care much about the bootloader, but for the sake of those that do, hopefully HTC will see a sizable increase in sales after making this move, which will hopefully persuade other manufacturers to do the same thing.

This is big news! I'm a Moto man at heart but..."There has been overwhelmingly customer feedback that people want access to open bootloaders on HTC phones. I want you to know that we've listened. Today, I'm confirming we will no longer be locking the bootloaders on our devices. Thanks for your passion, support and patience," Peter Chou, CEO of HTC
Will HTC now unlock the bootloader on the Tbolt?

No need for HTC to do anything, as you might expect the usual suspects have rooted the T'bolt and unlocked the bootloader. Google will find you several ways.
Personally, I've un-rooted and restored my T'bolt to stock waiting for the Gingerbread OTA update, mainly because I really didn't find a ROM I liked.
Other than the usual VZW multiple unwanted apps I can't really see an advantage to rooting but as developers add more and more ROMs I'll probably end up re-rooting it.....
It's me again...
