The Gingerbread update to the EVO 4G's Android operating system is reported to be rolling out now. The update weighs in at about 109 megs and will take you to version 4.22.651.2.
If you haven't seen it yet, you can get it manually by going to Menu/Settings/System updates/HTC software Update.

I haven't tried it, but I'm quite certain that if you don't unroot, you will not be able to install the update. That was the case for me for the previous update--after downloading the update, it would freeze while trying to install the update.
You should be able to root again after installing the update. Or you can flash your Evo with a Gingerbread-based mod.
can it be for cricket rooted evo?????? i need help on updating to gingerbread
I haven't tried this yet, but AndroidCentral has a guide on how to update your Evo to Gingerbread while keeping root:
