Anyone know anything about SIM card use in this thing? My company blackberry battery just fried and I'm in a pinch in India. Could I get a sim card for the htc merge or perhaps use the one out of the verizon phone?
Mod note: Don't post the same question in multiple threads.
And based on past experience, the SIM slot is typically unlocked for overseas use on uscc phones, so yes, you should be able to pop in a local SIM and be up and running. Someone here who actually has a Merge may be able to confirm, though.
Sorry about the multiple posts, I'm just in a pinch in India and trying to figure out how to get a phone up and running.
What I'm asking is, can I take the SIM card from my verizon blackberry from the us and put it in the Merge? The sim card from the verizon phone is programmed with international dialing. If this won't work, then I can probably purchase a sim card here in India to use with the Merge.
I would suggest just buying a local sim. It would save you alot of money. I wouldn't count on the verizon one working, especially if it isn't activated.
The verizon one worked. It was programmed for an international package before I left. So I popped it in and it allowed me to pick up the vodafone network which is what the blackberry was picking up. All is good again. Never trust an IT guy when he tells you the adapter for the charger will work on 240V. I'll be charging the Merge through the laptop.
Because when I turned on the phone without it, it wouldn't pick up a network. When I put it in, it said SIM card in use and asked which was my preferred network, I selected Vodafone. Then I texted my wife and asked her what phone number showed up, it was the one from the blackberry that had the sim card. Therefore, I have to conclude that the sim is working, because otherwise I would not receive any sort of signal since I need a GSM network in India.

Yikes! Sorry to hear you endured that!
The key feature is to look at the writing on the adapter. For example the one that came with my LG Optimus One says: INPUT: 100 - 240 V ~ 50/60 Hz 0.2A
So that tells me it would indeed work just fine on 240. But the one for my computer speakers says: INPUT: 120 V ~ 60 Hz 240 mA
Since there's one voltage and not a range, that one would fry on 240.
