Check restriction with your IMEI: http://mb.softbank.jp/mb/support/3G/restriction/

If it comes up as an X i'd try and get a refund. Otherwise ask the guy you bought it from.

No way to reset it without the current code afaik.

When you sign up for a contract, you have to provide a pin number; which cant be your bday, or any four identical digits. Since this is tied to the contract you signed (and assumedly, the contract which you are still using when you put the phone up for sale as a white-rom on Yahoo auctions etc), i guess this is left out of the sale...

However, it seems this might also be a defect in the 003/005SH phones.

Lots of people complaining about it on the 2CH boards, not accepting the password they supplied. Apparently most have to take it to the Softbank store, who do a bunch of things to get it reset (apparently takes up to an hour).

I think that other than some hacking like what Disastorm said, it may be that you are SOL

    *snip*
Stolen/lost/broken contract and disappeared and reported to SoftBank I'm afraid. Your phone won't work as a phone in Japan with a softbank usim.

What I'd do is contact the guy you got it from and send it back.

But also more importantly it means that you wouldnt be able to send it to anyone to try and get the phone reset here.

Wouldn't he have to have the original contract papers for them to even listen to him?

Either way- it was stolen or something fishy. Get a refund if possible.
