Originally posted by westbeach i just called csr just now and he switched me over to $30 talk and text promo + $10 1000 text message. didn't think they would bundle it like that.
previously i was on $20 200 anytime + fidopro
so essentially, i paid $12 more for 100 minutes which isn't that bad considering that i don't use "unlimited" sms while i do go over my free time.
do you guys think this is worthwhile?
That sounds like a good plan for you. For me personally, I text more than talking, so I'd rather have the fidopro.
guess what. i called csr to check what kind of package i was on. they told me just the 30 dollar talk and text. i asked them about the 1000 text and they said they couldn't do it. whomever did it did not know what they were doing was the answer i got. also, i asked if the 100 txt messages included email notifications. after debating with him and telling him to look at the website, he finally backed down and agreed that it was.
this is what pissed me off the most. they wouldn't let me go back to my old plan until the next billing cycle eventhough the first csr had made a mistake telling me that i could bundle the text w/ promo.
these new Optional Services (text messaging packages) from Fido are a nice surprise... i've been calling them the past few days and have confirmed with a couple of CSRs that the number of [text msgs or e-mails] that's included in the Optional Services include:
Information Messages
Yabada
Fido E-mail (sent and received)
Web-to-Fido Text Messaging
Fido-to-Fido (sent and received)
it is also confirmed on their website... however, a few CSRs i talked to was clueless as to what the Optional Services includes (no surprise there). anyway, here's the link: http://www.fido.ca/portal/en/info/Di....shtml#HowMuch
if i'm interpreting Fido's new Optional Services correctly, this means that the $10 for 1000 msgs Option is actually a much better deal than Fido Pro because: 1) you can add it to any plan, 2) it includes sending e-mails from your Fido handset as well as up to 1000 e-mail notifications (instead of 150), and 3) Web-to-Fido is included.
can anyone confirm Web-to-Fido for me? the only reason i'm skeptical about that one is because traditionally Fido has always been firm about charging the receiver 10 cents for a message sent from their Web page. i don't know why all of a sudden they would include it in Optional Services, unless it's a typo or the way they describe the service is open to interpretation...

sorry dude, you can't just add it to any plan. you can only add it to made-to-measure plans. so you cannot add onto promotional plans as i found out the hard way.

hey! that's weird... i changed to $30 Talk and Text (promotional plan) TODAY and also added the $10 1000 msg Optional Service. from the stories i've read on this forum, it depends on which Fido CSR you talk to. go figure
i'm not really concerned about adding the Optional Services to any of the monthly plans (because it's been done)... i'm more curious to find out if anyone knows FOR SURE whether Web-to-Fido msg'ing is included in the Optional Services package.
dude, i would call back to make sure that is what you have. the changes won't take into effect until midnight so eventhough the csr enters it, it may not register. that is what happened to me. i called to add $10 1000 txt to $30 plan. at first they said, no problem but will be in effect midnight. that was yesterday. i called back today and guess what? no 1000 txt messages included.
thanks, westbeach... after 3 yrs of service with Fido, i have gotten quite used to calling back 2 or 3 or 4 times just to verify that they haven't screwed up my request. i'll let you (and anyone who's interested) know what i find out tomorrow.
