HTC Merge is supposed to be a global phone, has capabilities for CDMA as well as GSM. Problem is that it is a US Cellular phone, which is strictly CDMA.

I can put the SIM card in the phone and it doesnt tell me that it's unrecognized or that the SIM has been blocked. In fact it tells me quite the opposite and tells me that "A SIM Card has been recognized. Switching to Global Mode." After that I'm stuck. I try to make a call and it tells me that its sending me to some automated thing where I can complete the call with a credit card.

I also did what I needed to with this phone to get to the hboot screen where it gives me the options of "Fast Boot, Recovery, SIM Lock" and one other option. I hit the sim lock option to see what would happen, it sat for a second, flashed a response and immediately turned itself off. Upon restarting the phone with the SIM card in, I made a call and got an automated response of "Unable to verify your account" or something along those lines.

Further more, there is no where for me to manually put in APN's. I'm not too worried about this so much at the moment. I'll worry about that if/when I can get the voice to work.

SO! Knowing that this is a global phone, has a SIM card and all the frequencies that match the e71, am I screwed, or is there another way for me to unlock this thing without breaking laws? I tried calling US Cellular and they tried to give me the run around talking about illegal, which isnt true in this case

    Dial ##778
    Hit Talk/Send
    Select Edit
    Enter your MSL code
Click view info, then modem settings, then Preferred mode, then menu, then edit.
Change Value From CDMA Only to GSM Only

These are the settings off my HTC TP2 so they should be close if not the same.
if you don't have your MSL Code try 000000
if that doesnt work search how to get it... good luck

I'm planning on buying the Motorola Atrix 2 and use it on the Straight Talk network (already have an E71 activated). I'm assuming the process for creating the needed APNs will be the same as the first post. My question is, should I buy the phone directly from AT&T (without a plan) or can I buy it from Motorola's store? Does it make a difference if the phone's not "branded by AT&T"?

You can buy it anywhere, it doesn't matter. If its not branded AT&T, just make sure its either for the AT&T network or its unlocked. The APN creation process is the same on ALL Androids.

Hi. I have an Atrix running Straight Talk. When I had Froyo on the device I used the settings outlined in the Wiki link on the first post of this thread. Everything worked flawlessly. I have Gingerbread on the device now. Using the same settings, everything works except picture messages. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I use google voice for my voicemail. I do not get voicemail notifications on my device when I receive a voicemail. Just a text message. How can I correct this. Thank you!

I would proofread your APN.....it sound like you did it wrong.

I'm sorry to say that that is because of poor ATT service in your area. If you go to another area of town that might change.

Check the pins under the bottom SIM cover, are they clean and making good contact? Are you on the latest AT&T radio firmware for the Inspire?
