Could someone explain what might be the impact of the different APN settings? I currently have it set up the "old" way.
The "new" APN settings (the one listed on the straighttalk site) adds
Proxy: proxy.mnvo.tracfone.com
Port: 80
and changes MMS Proxy to: 66.209.11.33
It's not uncommon to see several different APNs to access the same network. In this case the only thing that could potentially be affected is picture messaging. I doubt you'll notice any difference honestly.
Thanks, I currently have no problem with MMS or Data (except that AT&T is terribly slow at times) so I think the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" saying is appropriate here. =)
Not exactly sure what a "proxy" does but from what I can gather from a quick Google search it is somewhat like a gateway to the internet that all requests must pass through? So, anyone think the new APN & Proxy combo they are giving out might be a throttled proxy? Meaning overall slower speeds than AT&T so there isn't a conflict of interest for them w/ ST's new BYOSP program? Just a thought.
Im on the SIM Swap and I've tried with and without the Proxy (not MMS Proxy, just Proxy) and it didn't really change my speedtests at all. I suspect it doesn't do a whole lot in this case either. All of our data passes through an AT&T datacenter in Chicago anyways.
ok new here as poster and not as viewer; I have not seen this questions I am about to ask; at least not worded like this...... With the new Straight Talk Sim program do you need to buy sim? I have the E71 and know it can work, will it be detectable or not as full featured as new sim? (mms?) I know it is only $15 I would save but are their advantages to using nokia sim instead of new sim through their new sim program.
and my two cents on a different note yes I got shut off before using the joiku app, and yes the person on the other end was as vague and unhelpful as poss., but I managed to get two numbers from two different people 2gb and 5gb as limits. and the slip that having multiple open windows on my laptop led to data spikes that got me noticed(flagged); I was surfing and viewing online tv etc. but the biggest spike per my data counter and basically when they shut me off was as soon as I tested skype video calling on laptop via joiku connect.
Joiku is still avail direct at their site and is an unused luxury I possess

In the process of shutting you off did they blacklist your E-71? No SIM for you!!!
They say you cannot use a buy-a-sim in a ST branded phone (the E71).
The SIM from the Nokia and a buy-a-sim may well be functional identical twins.
no I've been back on for a year, my sim/ phone works and has worked in other iphone/ android devices i have tested- only voice and text, but tested at stores and didnt mess with any settings. So my sim is good and I wonder if there is a diff between mine i own and a new one through their new program....... Iam looking at new phones- my nokia is fine I might buy an atrix or other

The SIM`s appear to be the same, but it is way too early to know for sure. Someone posted that ST is making them buy a replacement SIM that was ruined with activation. He did not specify which type SIM. There is no cost for Nokia replacement SIM`s.
The complex nature of buy-a-sim useage may attract the type of customer who ST might see as possible abusers of the data limit, and they might be watched closer than users of the Nokia SIMs.
So, I see that the SIM card itself is $15 each. Can I get the free phone, Motorola W418G refur., activate it with the $45 plan, then pop the SIM into my iPhone 4 after cutting it, and expect it to work? This way I get the SIM for (almost) free.

NO!!! Only two ways to get an unlocked SIM 1- The three Nokias come with AT&T SIMS 2-the new buy-a-sim program (both AT&T and T-Mobile SIM`s)
I have gone through the steps 3 or 4 times and it will not work on this phone, can someone send me a step by step how to make a new APN or write me at cts237aolcom 248 935 8985 I know other people have made this work on a Captivate thanks
To complete the Activation, turn your phone off and immediately back on.
Make a call. If after 10 minutes you are unable to make and receive calls, turn your phone OFF and back ON again.
If your call was not successful, wait 1 hour and repeat these steps.
In order for your phone's features to work, you will need to update your phone’s APN (Access Point Name) setting. Some services, such as MMS or Browsing, may not work if you cannot make the required changes.
Once you have reached your phone's APN (Access Point Name) setting, follow the below steps to be able to make and receive MMS and access your Browser.
Create a new APN with the following values depending on whether it's a Smart Phone or not.
Delete the current "APN/Access Point Name" from your phone.
Reboot your phone.
If you encounter any difficulty updating your phone, please refer to your phone user manual and manufacturer for further assistance. Keep in mind, your APN setting can be found on the red Activation Card that came with your *SIM Card*, or go to our website’s Frequently Asked Questions.
Ok ok i just got my Samsung s2 today and APN info not working for me... be clear i just did these same settings for my wife infuse and it worked flawelssly... what am i doing wrong?
ive made two APN's didnt work so i just combined them like this
If you buy-a-sim, it comes with a red activation card that contains a S/N assigned by Tracfone. You use this S/N rather than your phones S/N to activate the SIM. Then you can put the SIM in any compatible phone. You can also move it to a different compatible phone as often as you wish. Each phone you move it to must be set up for the Tracfone service per the instructions on the green part of the activation card..
When sim swaping begun one of the early questions about doing this was if ST or ATT were keeping track of the phone S/N or IMEI that you use to active the sim in order to detect sim swap and stop service. Now we are over a year sim swaping without problems.
Copy/Paste from the instructions on the red activation card for ST BYOP:
When asked for your phone’s Serial Number, always provide the Serial Number
shown on the red Activation Card. DO NOT provide the actual Serial Number
inside your phone as our system will not recognize it.
They use the S/N of the Nokia phone to activate the sim card and that's it, they don't use the number for anything else. Of course Nokia owners sim swaping need to keep the phone because the S/N is the one associated with the sim card.
With the ST BYOP sim card they are providing a fake phone S/N only to activate the sim because they don't care about what phone it's inserted. But we sim swapers already know that.
i did exactly what was said to do i tried doing with the 2 different ones and then when that didnt work i combined it to one and deleted the second and still can not send or receive picture messages i have the htc inspire 4g and put the sim card from my straight talk nokia 6790 in it is there something else i can do to make this work please help
