Wait for iPhone 5 or switch now?

Unless your current phone isn't working properly, I would wait for another 2.5 months. Testing on iPhone 5 is over and it will go into production next month. It will get released in Sept.
It will certainly be faster with dual core. Hold on and get it in a few weeks. It will be worth the wait.

So I picked up my friends iPhone 4 but how the heck do I activate it? I really don't want to have to goto the Verizon store but I have a feeling I might have too. I was reading this

All you need to do is dial *228 and follow the instructions.

also if you get that iphone 4 check the current firmware/baseband. If your friend kept it unlockable that will increase the price even though apple is selling unlocked iphones. Also, be sure to backup all the SHSH's using tiny umbrella (or at the least if you jailbreak open cydia and press make my life easier). ANd when you upgrade firmware retain the baseband as that'll help with unlock (if one is ever released)

Well i've been playing around the with the iPhone 4 for a day now and overall i'm happy. Haven't had any issues like I had with Android. I haven't activated the phone yet, mostly because I haven't had the time to get all the stuff off my other phone yet but I will soon, just wondering if I can jailbreak it it without it being activated? The phone is running 4.2.8

Popular unofficial leaks puts the next iPhone in August / September.

Lets look at iOS 5 as an indicator.
- Normally there are 4 betas before the GM release
- New hardware is announced around the GM release time
- Beta's typically come out every 2 weeks

If the beta cycle completes as usual with 4betas on time, then August / September seems highly likely for the announce/release of a new phone.
