Have you looked into any qualifying monthly discounts? For instance some company employees qualify for 25% discount to their base rate plan.

Currently I pay around 80 bucks a month for Palm Pre. (live in bay area) Due to my economic situation, I want to switch to a cheaper plan, but I do like Sprint coverage.
I know there are smaller contracted carriers that uses Sprint network, and I've talked to a guy in a phone store. He told me that depending on what the smaller carrier is, they might not use the entire Sprint network. He told me that Boostmobile does use the entire sprint network, not just parts of it.
But Boostmobile requires you to use their prepaid phones and I wouldn't be able to keep my Pre.
Also, I don't mind not having a data plan, as long as the phone has an option to store map data in the phone for GPS.
Does anyone know of a good solution for me? I essentially need to know a couple of minor carriers that uses sprint network and if they use the entire network or just parts of it. Thanks.

I don't have a job right now...
If you belong to a Credit Union you qualify for 10%, but I'm guessing you're looking for something better.
I know of carriers like TracFone Straight Talk, Ready Mobile, PlatinumTel, Kajeet, Cricket, and Boost Mobile. (got it from a site) but i dont know how much of the Sprint Network they use. I would like to know that before I start crossing out which one I am not going to go with.
No way to keep the Pre on a cheaper Sprint plan.
You can probably put a Pre on PagePlus and you can definitely put a Pixi on PagePlus... many are including myself. $30/mo gets you a lot of service on PagePlus... its the Verizon network not the Sprint network.
You might want to try PagePlus in your area first... costs $0-1 to activate a phone just to try (you'll need any old Verizon phone, or if you're willing to hack, a Sprint phone).
What's more important: 1) saving money, 2) keeping Pre, 3) Sprint network? what's least important?
Save money: Boost, Virgin, PagePlus, maybe Tmobile
Keep Pre: PagePlus, maybe GSM Pre on Tmobile
Sprint network: Boost, Virgin
the $30/mo for pageplus, that comes with only 100mb of data right? how fast does that go if i use, say a palm pre or android device?
i dont really want verizon because i had bad reception at my house. i could try again if there's a pageplus store nearby.
I care most about the network, and so far i only remember sprint working well where i live. that's all i really care about. cost would be second. and keeping the pre isnt a requirement. It's buggy and i am tired of it.
phones themselves send and receive data so you'd have to turn that off. that takes like 50-100MB. so 100mb is not a lot at all.Bashok

You can also try to aquire someones old "sero" plan.. I think you can still transfer the service..![]()
