Oops. Completely missed this one. I paid 1200-something a day for an EMobile router from Telecom Square. Came with a free keitai rental. That cost me about 2k because I missed the fact that they charged for toll-free numbers too (replacing AmEx card- but at least it was same-day pickup).

Really happy about the 3.1 update. My video review was gonna focus on the many software failures of the tablet.. now though I guess that section will be shorter.

That's pretty great, since SoftBank charge 1500 yen for their pocket wifi and another 105 yen for a rental SIM.

I wonder if there's any docomo mifi + rental sim package

How were the speeds? Battery life?

Oops. Sorry for anyone waiting for a video review (if anyone is still waiting after a few months).

My impulse buy of the Pad ended up with an impulse sale of the Pad just a few moments ago. It's gone. I'm sad...

But I needed the money and to get rid of a few devices since I'll be traveling a lot.. And maybe I'll get a better tablet next year with Android 4.1 or something Maybe.

Aiming for a Galaxy Nexus now, it might just be big enough to fill the gap between tablet and phone perfectly for me and obviate the need to have two devices. Maybe.

Or I just enjoy having new gadgets all the time.

Plenty of the video reviews of the Optimus Pad on YouTube, just look for reviews of the G-Slate

Yeah but most reviews out there about most products are initial impressions or glorified unboxing... I was planning on a review based on actual usage after some weeks, but I guess I got sidetracked lol

Out of curiosity, is the pad unlockable?

Also, getting back to Yamanote, the Telecom Square rental router lasted all of five hours on one charge. Spent a small fortune on batteries and charger to keep it going and I've since learned that EMobile signal sucks. Keitai was on SoftBank and the signal also kinda sucked.

Air's was better. Seven hours and their dumb-keitai rental came with unlimited e-mail and i-mode.

Pad isn't unlockable by DoCoMo, I think they purposely released it on March 31 instead of April 1 to avoid the unlock. Some websites claim to be able to do IMEI-based unlocking but I never tried.

I mostly used it on WiFi anyway, worked perfectly. Airplane mode + wifi on gave me more battery life anyway

Pad can't be unlocked by DoCoMo, it came out 1 day before the unlock policy took effect. I think they did it out of spite

Some websites claim to be able to do an IMEI-based unlock but I never tried... Wasn't worth it. I was always using it on WiFi anyway. Airplane mode + wifi on = even more battery life (2-3 days, maybe more, depending on how much I used it).

The review from mobileburn is pretty in-depth

Yeah I found that docomo had much better signal than SoftBank, at least in the Tokyo area.

Glad my recommendation was of some use Did you end up flying out of Narita or did you have to hatch an elaborate plan to return everything (mail it back?)?

Yeah, docomo signal was much more reliable. Will be using them again if given the chance.

And I ditched the last part and used some miles to fly out of Narita on ANA. Flying through Haneda will have to wait until this winter when I go to Canada through Tokyo.
