New site fast-mobile.com for prepaid users without data plans
Hi Everyone - I've created a new gateway portal with all the sites that are accessible when on a prepaid plan, but not on any kind of data plan. This isn't a replacement for Capt. Smokey's or whizkid515's work on the more complicated procedure. Rather this approach is for everyone else who might just want to check Yahoo mail or do some really basic stuff.
There were a couple of interesting things that I found out along the way, like the fact that NBA Sports and BBC Sports are available.
So now for the killer...Google UK is also available (sadly no mail and maps)....BUT if you search and come up results, you can go into the Google Options menu for each URL and then choose Mobile-Formatted. What this does is bring up sites running through Google's proxy/formatter. I was blown away when I noticed this. The link to Google by the way is the same link that is used by TMobile's web'n'walk UK site - so there is nothing sneaky going on.
The website is designed for iPhones and is meant to be super easy. It is: http://fast-mobile.com.
Take a look - let me know what you think. This is my first post.
And BTW, if you know of any other open sites for TMobile prepaid, post them here.
Google's proxy/formatter does not work for some websites redirecting to their own mobile version. E.g., typing in www.facebook.com redirects to m.facebook.com. Google's translator, however, allowed me to view facebook.com in a foreign language, great if I am visiting the States from another country, not so much otherwise. Clicking "View: Original" or "Translate into: English" requires you to purchase a data plan. www.google.co.uk/gwt/x?client=ms-hms-tmobile-gb http://www.google.co.uk/m/translate?...hms-tmobile-gb
whizkid515: you're welcome for the link; feel free to link back to my site if you want and feel free to use the google link.
kecel: sites added - it sort of looks like you need to be logged into myspace via wifi first...I also had problems seaching on ebay. Are you able to use ebay? I'm not sure about facebook. Anyone have any creative ideas?
Bejeer: great find! added
fratermus, exit, specular - I'm not sure how to fix those specific issues.
Thanks again for all of the kind words. Keep on sending the links if you got 'em!
I do not have/use a myspace to test with. I am able to sign in to eBay, view my saved searches/watched items, track the bids, and time left, but not new searches, searching by category does not work for me either. Alright for someone who finds an item at home and wants to keep tabs on it from their phone while they're away. You can delete the myspace if it does not work. Out of ideas on getting facebook through the browser, but whizkid515 links to Snaptu for those with Java-enabled phones. A bit outside the scope of this tread, but I believe it still works.
Hi kecel thanks for the info about eBay. I put in a tip with the info from your post. I also found that nbcbarea is available so I've added it to the News section.
