Cool Mobilicity's National Break Your Wireless Contract Day - Saturday, June 25th

source: Metro News (June 21, 2011)

fine print: $200 credit is provided to customer's myWallet over 5mths @ $40/mth
I cracked & signed up with Telus. I couldnt resist the Free Phone, $300 airtime credit, and EPP ($20+tax : 350mins, unlimited early evngs /wknds, cd, vm, unlimited NA txts, NO SAFS or 911) With the $300 credit its like having a free year of phone service.

... Making the offer incredibly misleading for most would-be customers. A $200 roaming credit doesn't even show confidence in their own network.

Were it a straight-up $200 account credit alongside some variant of the FnF deal then we'd be on to something...

Roaming credit??? Thats not the only thing the Wallet allows you to do.

You can use the credit to pay off your monthly bill or use pay-per-use options like long distance

Yeah, icemasta is right, I used my $100 credit when I originally got the f&f to pay for 2mths of service, the reset I left in myWallet for a "rainy day"

unfortunatly I have to leave mobi for WIND as there is a "dead zone" smack dab in central Mississauga (WTF) and I just happen to have bought a townhouse in said dead zone

It would nice of WIND to offer a similiar incentive other then the windTab, maybe $100 credit even

This is what's mobilicity said, seems it is only can be used for pay per use (Services not in your regular monthly plan) that's sad.

Mobilicity offers a variety of services that you may use that are not included in your regular Mobilicity plan. My Wallet™ is an account of money that you can use to pay for these services. These services are called Pay-Per-Use services. For Mobilicity, this includes content downloads, Pay-Per-Use international long distance calls, roaming outside of Mobilicity’s coverage area, and 411 (Directory Assistance).

Services offered on a pay-per-use basis include:

    Voice:
    411 (Directory Assistance)
    Roaming:
    Canadian Roaming
    US Roaming
    Long Distance:
    International Calls
    Data:
    Pay-Per-Use data
    Downloadable Content

Only for roaming credit won't land them many people breaking contracts to join them.

I just used my remaining $15 (3days ago) in myWallet to pay partial for my monthly fees by using the "transfer funds" option on the myAccount on Mobilicity.com, so using myWallet to pay your monthly fees IS POSSIBLE

If they're putting it in writing maybe they'll block the credit from paying fees. Maybe one of us should tweet dave for a solid answer.

No, you can use the credit to pay your monthly bill. You just need to transfer the balance first.

It's not a roaming credit. MyWallet funds can always be used to pay for any Mobilicity services, including monthly services, as long as you request that funds be applied as a monthly payment.

If there's no special plan available on this day, Mobilicity is just giving $40 credits each month for 5 months instead of giving a better priced plans that have been previously available. I would much rather have a better plan then some temporary credit, but that's just me.

All of the stores listed on the bottom of your brochure are in the GTA. Is this offer available in the other Mobi areas too - like Ottawa?
And what's the final verdict? Can I use the $200 credit toward a Mobi simcard and monthly pay-ahead service?
Ideally, I'd like to port over for free and try them out for a few months until the credit runs out and then decide afterwards what to do.

    YES & NO

    YES
The $200 credit is available at all mobilicity corp. stores and EXCLUSIVE dealers across Canada. You can go to the mobilicity website and if "your neighbourhood store" is listed on their store locator tool then they can offer you the discount. Mobilicity no longer lists the "mom & pop" mobilicity dealers on their site.

    NO.
The credit can not be user towards the purchase of a SIM card, although its not unheard of of mobilicity reps (especially in the corp stores) giving you the SIM for free. You can use the credit to pay your monthly bill, although I believe you still have to prepay for first mth in the store.

That means you can get 6 months' service for $40. Can Mobi survive on this type of cut throat discount?

It is for 1 day. Its also for PR and advertising / word of mouth. these schemes doesnt cost the company a fortune (they can still bear it) and it makes good advertising!
