Mobilicity does not yet provide unlock codes for devices they sell. At the HoFo/Mobilicity meet in Vancouver last month Dave Dobbin was asked when their unlock policy would be announced, and his initial answer was "Soon."

There are no online unlock options for the Mobilicity E73.

Wind provides unlock codes free of charge after 3 months of service.

Bill 133 is soon to be implemented in Ontario which means that for FUTURE "contracts" if you didn't buy the phone at a discount - it has to be unlocked.

One of LazerAndroids posts mentioned that Dave Dobbins is all for it and thinks it's a good thing.

However - he seems to be waiting until the last minute.

I'm in the market for 2 E73s - but not locked.

A contract eventually ends - but locked is forever.

As soon as you put your Fido sim in the Nokia E73 (assuming it was unlocked) and try to load a web page while connected to the cell phone network, your phone will tell you to buy a another day pass (the $2, non-unlimited version).
Be that as it may, the Fido day pass is $2 for 20 MB, the Mobilicity roaming data $5 for 1 MB. And, for whatever reason, the roaming data I did use for email was excruciatingly slow.

...and local calls would have been .10/min on my fido prepaid sim, vs. .20/min roaming on Mobi.

    Hey everyone,
I run the website listed in this thread (yidwireless.com / unlockmobilicity.com) and I'm happy to answer any questions about the Nokia 5230/e73 unlocking (as well as any other SL3 Nokia unlocking) you may have.

I just amazes me how people can't do simple math. 20c a minute is better with Mobilicity then 10c a Minute for your Fido Prepaid Local calling only Sim, you want to know how, you are paying $10.75 + Tax so close to $12.50 a month just to get the 10c a minute rate, where with Mobi its 20c a minute including tax for all you calls outside there unlimited coverage from anywhere in North America to anywhere in North America. So see for your self one is better.

    Mobi or Fido

    The Clear Winner is Mobilcity

ahem... if in your simple math you want to include the monthly fee for the prepaid Fido plan (which I maintain in any case), why leave out the monthly fee for the Mobilicity plan? I wasn't comparing plans, but my actual per minute cost.

Then Fido will lose a lot. City Fido $35 +$8 caller ID is mobilicity $25.

The Monthly fee of $10.75 at Fido just gives you an option to make local calls at 10c a minute where with a $25 fee at Mobilicity you get unlimited talk and text and north America wide roaming at only 20c no tax. Is still don't get your math.

Don't you think $50 is a bit too much for unlocking a phone that costs $150, so it means unlocking costs 33% of the phone cost. While most of the other phones can be unlocked in <$20

The cost of the service is based on the hardware required to unlock these phones, not the value of the phone itself. The hardware to unlock these phones has cost me over $10k to build, and there is a limit to the number of phones that can be done daily.
This is the only method that we have to unlock these newer models (E73/5230 from Mobilicity, 2730 7230 c6 c7 n97 from Bell, etc).
Cheap <$20 unlocks are for older Nokia models, and networks that have an insider leaking out the codes from the network database. Until a suitable supplier is found, we have to use this expensive process to generate your code.

The plus side is, we will NEVER have an incorrect code using our process, and it works for (virtually) all Nokia models worldwide.

Wouldnt you be better off doing a promo for $20 now since the phone is $99 and make some money instead of none at all?

$50 unlock for a $99 phone is half price.

I've found http://unlockthatphone.com/ that promises to unlock the phone for mere CA$38.97, remotely with code available in 5-14 days... All others claim they need to have physical phone to unlock it. Any experience with them?

    arhh, where were you yesterday
They mention unlock via software. Did you have to install/run anything? Or have they just sent you an unlock code?

http://unlockthatphone.com/ sales replied to me with a note that they cannot yet unlock E73 - go figure...

Nokias on Mobilicity can only be unlocked by using the SL3 software, it will usually cost you $50, if your in Vancouver PM me and I will get it done for you for cheaper than that.
