This is an interesting thought. Also there are smart phones that are unlocked and not originally for Att use.

I'm creating a fork from the unlimited talk/text/data for fifty plan thread. The question we want answered here is, are there any smartphones that will work on the new unlimited everything plan that is supposed to be feature phones only. Activate on a feature phone, swap to a smartphone.
My top suspects for won't work are
1)Iphones. Especially the iphone 4.
2)Androids.
3)Blackberries.
4)Windows Phone 7 or whatever it's called this week.
My top suspects for will possibly work are :
1)Palm OS (Old).
2)Web OS (new).
3)Windows Mobile (Old).
4)Symbian (Nokia).
5)Many non Att branded unlocked gsm smartphones.
6)Dual cdma (usually Verizon) /gsm phones with an unlocked gsm mode (i.e. Blackberry Storm series).
What say you folks.
Post 'em if you got 'em.
Post first three of your imei too if possible. Helps to see what they're tracking and not.

trying to come up with better signature.......
sony naite works with 50 unlimited plan.

$70.00 Plan
I bought an Atrix full price at a dealer a few days ago, still on the $75 monthly charge. No H+ access but works in 3G. Previous phone was a Motorola ES400, I bought unbranded and unlocked and that phone worked just fine.
Postpaid customers have been using smartphones on the cheaper unlimited "dumbphone only" data plan for years. I would assume the work around is the same on this prepaid plan? Use a phone that AT&T has never officially carried and they probably won't have the IMEI for it in their system and it won't be detected as a smartphone. Works like charm even for Android phones.
I guess the real problem is getting the most out of it without using too much data that makes it obvious that you're not using a dumbphone.
So did you or did you not put the Atrix on the $50 plan successfully with unlimited data?
The Naite is not a smartphone from what I've seen.
Anyone else successfully get smartphones on the new $50 unlimited everything plan including data? Not old plan, not $2 a day plan, not talk/text only $50. THE $50 UNLIMITED EVERYTHING FEATURE PHONE PLAN. Thanks.
That is from At&t website. So if you do the $50.00 plan do you have to buy a separate data package still?$50/Monthly Unlimited plan includes unlimited talk, text, and access to Internet, email, social networks, and more! (Smartphone users must purchase a separate data package.)
Motorola q9h worked (so win mobile 6 works) . My iPhone 3G and 3GS were a no go for data even with the apn change; everything else worked. My second test were Blackberry curve 8310 and 8320 neither access the Internet. My 3rd test razr worked great. So the next will be a palm centrino so I'll post later.
I have a friend who own a local cellphone store here in town and they asked me to experiment with a couple phones they had that were undranded/unlocked. First one i tried was a Motorola Flipout which was an Orange branded phone and it worked without any problems. It was stuck on EDGE though but it worked just like normal. The second phone I tried was a Huawei Idios that is completely unbranded. It is the T-mobile comet basically. It also worked and the 3g also worked on it. I actually had the same kind of phone on AT&T Postpaid a while back on the dumphone media net plan and it worked great. So those are two phones that I tried that worked as they should. Both are Android phones.
I wonder if a foreign unlocked iPhone might work?
Fonezfonz,
My $75 monthly go phone package was already in progress at the time I took my SIM card out of the Motorola ES400 and placed it in the Atrix. I did have to change the APN to cingular.wap in order to get data via 3G, but its DEAD on H+ all the way.
When my month is up, about another 20 days, I will get the $50 talk & text plan and the "required" data plan ($25) for the same monthly expenditure of $75, only that I will get 500MB a month to use, not just the 200MB that came with the original "$75" monthly package. Seems this round of changes worked to my advantage although I never really used more than 100MB monthly anyway. Just nice to know its there IF I want or need it.
Thanks for the posts. This thread is meant for facts on what smartphones work with data on the $50 unlimited feature phone plan and which ones don't.
Ones that work so far:
1)Windows Mobile.
2)Unbranded or unlocked non Att Android phones.
What does not.
1)Att branded iphone 3g, 3gs, iphone 4.
2)Blackberries.
Still untested:
1)Nokia Symbian 3. (Rare in the US but still has potential).
2)Windows Phone 7 (not Windows Mobile classic).
3)Web OS (HPalm)
4)Palm OS (original/old)
5)Unbranded, unlocked, foreign iphones.
6)Iphone 2G USA. Att.
7)Dual cdma /gsm mode smartphones (Blackberry Storm, Various Verizon smartphones and a few Sprint ones with quadband gsm modes).
On all that had success getting data with this plan, was the sim activated in a feature/dumbphone and simswapped to said successful smartphone device or was it activated initially on that smartphone that worked?
Keep posting folks.
Inquring minds want to know.
To Zepplin. Duly noted. Thanks for the post.
I hope that listing models work across the board (All Windows Mobile, All unlocked/unbranded Androids). It will make categorizing devices much easier on what works and what doesn't on the data portion of the new unlimited talk/text/data feature plan/$50.
We'll see.

Palm centrino,Samsung Blackjack 1&2: I've come to the assumption that the non pocket pc version of windows mobile works. Now that's all I have to test and everything was done with the cingular wap settings.
Can anyone confirm this working with the Samsung Galaxy S2?
Does Verizon have an Unlimited Text and Data plan on their prepaid smartphones?
