Is your N8 USA product code/USA model or some other country variant ?
USA variant bought from newegg. Although I did have to have it replaced under warranty a few months ago. That might be the difference.
I find it interesting that I was the first in the thread to try this plan on a N8 and I still have data while those who got it based upon my recommendations no longer seem to have it.
Could you please double check what product code you have after replacement ? Is it still USA or the "Swap product code" which they sometimes give under warranty replacements.

Yes it is still North America US dark grey variant.
Hey dont return it!! Its a wonderful phone! Just switch to StraightTalk like I am going to do
I have not returned it.But I am a little scared to to activate a SIM and put another 50 dollars to see if it will work or not.The phone came with Anna pre-installed.I have not updated to Belle, I want to use Anna for a while. Should I try ?
Also I hear that Sony Xperia Ray works on 50 dollar att unlimited data prepaid plan.Newegg reviews say that. And Newegg sells it for $280, it comes with Android Gingerbread soon to be upgraded to Ice Cream.Android is repulsive.I thought about getting that phone but it seemed flimsy and the data usage is not the only reason to buy a phone for me. N8 looks great with a great camera.

Frankly, I am not impressed by the battery endurance of Android phones, few of my friends have various Android phones(Samsung/HTC no Sony yet), and they are more often plugged in to the wall than it seems reasonable! Also I do not like the comparatively sluggish UI of Android 2.3 . ICS Seems better.
N8 UI is also a little sluggish with Anna, but with Belle UI lags are hard to find. I would not suggest sticking around with Anna. Plus the camera is THE BEST, the 1/1.8" sensor plus Xenon flash is unbeatable especially for low light situations like pubs and bars.
Coming back to your question , I would not risk 50$ on ATT GoPhone now , with so many reports coming of data being blocked, only one person reported it to be working. ST it is!
That link only applies to postpaid customers with unlimited smartphone data plans. A smartphone on the GoPhone $50 plan will either work without data packages if not recognized as a smartphone or with data packages only if recognized as a smartphone. It will not work on pay-per-use on any GoPhone plan if recognized as a smartphone.
