When trying to access my voicemail, I discovered that I could not use the automated menu: it ignored all keypad entries and finally hung up on me. Has anyone else had this problem? Did I inadvertently change a setting that disabled my dialpad during calls?
The voicemail service and any other service that requires you to press 1 or press 2 etc. for something are listening for touchtones coming from your phone. Your phone has to be producing the tones when you press a key. Not the keypad feedback tones but the tones like on a landline phone. There is supposed to be a setting in the phone to turn this on or off. I don't know how to find it, but you usually have a choice of long or short DTMF tones (that's the official terminology). If you don't hear anything when you press a key, it isn't doing it and the voicemail isn't hearing it either. I believe this is how it works.
Thanks for the reply. I've been through the menu a couple times and can find nothing about DTMF. I was sure it would be in the Touchscreen Effects menu but no joy.
Is there anyone for whom this works correctly on the 800G?
I just got off the phone with Tracfone customer service (in Miami) - they had me "refresh" my phone by powering down, removing the SIM for a minute, and powering back up. Much to my surprise, it worked!
It turns out there is a DTMF toggle in the context menu during calls - it seems to be on by default - why would anyone need to shut it off, I wonder?

I just now had no problem. I pressed and held 1 and got voive mail to answer. During the initial message I pressed dial pad and it displayed. I then pressed 1 and it accepted and displayed a 1.
Yes, I am researching the same problem. Then a voice says "sorry you are having problems, good'by" and hangs up.
I have already found that this phone is defective and cannot do voice mail. Now I am researching on how to turn the voice mail OFF, or deactivate it, as people are still leaving messages which I cannot retrieve. I like the phone, use the sms, but cannot retrieve the voice mail. I guess tracfone will take it back, but I am not sure of that. its the triple minute phone, and for 20 bucks I get 180 minutes, plus 60 extra with a promo code (Google Promo codes) so its very economical for me. I really dont need voicemail as I check the recent calls anyway and its cheaper to just call back the ones u know as i am already getting sales calls.

Are you really having the same problem I was having?
Didn't you try the solution that worked for me? (power down, remove sim card for a minute, replace it, power up - it worked for me)
Call customer service if it didn't work. They will replace a defective phone.
they did for me when my touch screen stopped working.

This does not sound like a defective phone. Contact customer service through facebook or call Miami, 305-715-6500. If you can accurately explain the problem to them it will be fixed. Hopefully you will reach a knowledgable CSR the first try.

I did not see your "solution" but I am A/going to try it, and B/ going to call the service number suggested. Right now I am ignoring my voice mail and calling back the people who call. I don't like the voice mails piling up but I can live with it until I get a solution. Thanks so much, will keep you posted.
sharrygranny,
Just wondering, have you ever been able to check your voicemail by holding #1 down on that phone? I ask because my phone was programmed with the wrong local voicemail retrieval number (it's not your cell phone number) and I had to have Tracfone push the correct number onto my phone. They said they couldn't do it the first two times I called but the third time they passed me to their technical folks who pushed the correct retrieval number onto my phone.
I followed plan A, followed your directions, I turned off the phone, opened back, took out battery, took out the simm card, waited a minute or so, put all back together. The phone acted funny when I turned it on, no "lock" page, so I turned off again, then on and it s back to normal. Went to voicemail, had to press 1 twice, but got my voicemail!!!! Wow!!
So thank you very much, if someone my age can do this, anyone can. Your directions were simple and perfect. This will help so many people!

I am still amazed, and hours later, my voicemail is working just fine!
Feb. 3, voice mail is still working just fine on the LG 800, Got my memory chip in, but no apps will work that I download. Oh well its a nice phone, and I have learned to send text messages quite nicely
